i can explain it all to you, but u need to be a little more specific on what you want to know. its like asking someone to explain chemistry to you in a sentence, just not logical

Is it similar to field hockey or hockey?
What do you need to be good?

no its not like field hockey or hockey other than that your trying to score. its a game all unto itself and cant really be compared to anything b/c the tactics are so different than anything else.
no one is naturally good at lacrosse. you might pick it up quick but it takes a long time and a lot of practice to be good. ive been playing for 5 years now, i'm good but i'm not amazing like some of the other guys on my team who have been playing their entire life and practice everyday. be prepared to spend a loooooong time throwing the ball against a wall to get good.

If you're athletic, and have good hand-eye coordination, you shouldn't have a problem picking it up. This'll be my 4th year playing lax, and 1st playing Defense. It's a great sport, if you like hockey you'll definitely like lacrosse.

I played lacrosse for over 10 years. I absolutely loved it. I encourage everyone I know to play.

if you're thinking about playing, buy a stick now, get it custom strung (factory stringing is always horrible), and start playing wall ball to have some stick skills when you try out. have a friend show you proper throwing form, as it is crucial. Try and play midfield so you develop offensive skills as well as defensive skills.

By far the greatest sport I have ever played
Sucks I'm in my senior season, was going to be 1st/2nd team all state D and I just broke my foot monday clearing the ball when I planted my foot in a crappy field while getting hit by someone. Seriously the worst way to go out, wasn't even an important game we were up by like 10 and the hit was absolutely pathetic, the weight just shifted to my foot and broke in 2 places.
Only advice I can give you is keep your eye on the ball all the way through the catch, I have been playing for a while and the catches I always tend to miss are the really easy ones where I stop watching the ball and start watching everything else, focus on one thing at a time.
Also learn to throw and catch, pretty sad that we have 40~ people on our team but only like 15 can be played because the other 25 can't catch more then 50% of the time.
GL if there was any sport I'de recommend it would be lacrosse, wish I could be playing right now, its quite honestly the only sport I've ever played where I looked forward to going to practice because it was that fun even with the conditioning they expect of you.

This is my first year as well. It's hard to explain. I went to varsity practice on the first day and had no idea what I was doing. But by being thrown in there head first, I figured it out by being scared to mess up. Just do good.

get to knock the $hit out of people which is fun, considering most lax players are smaller

dont waste money on custom stringing. get ur stick, re-string it using online instructions. custom stringing is a waste until you know what to look for and what your talking about. going out and putting a rocket pocket on your first 30 dollar stick isnt going to make you a better player.
