    Substitute for Rice Cakes

I have been having Rice Cakes lately with natural peanut butter. Rice cakes are high on the glycemic index. Are there better rice cakes out there that are low on the glycemic list?

Would I be better off with a whole grain bread instead of rice cakes?

    Thanks,
    LarryG

they are high GI, but the amount of carbs are small, plus the PB lowers the GI

I honestly wouldn't worry about the hi gi of the rice cakes if you are eating pb with them - but yes, whole grain bread would probably be a slightly better option than the rice cakes...but it doesn't matter that much either way as long as you aren't eating TONS of rice cakes.

Haha, rice cakes...I ate a whole package of those stupid things yesterday, probably wasnt too good for me. I would say your better off with the RCs and PB tho, I think thats healthier than wheat. Im gonna look for a wholer/heartier rice cake tho, maybe a brown rice cake? Ill post a link if i find anything promisising.

I agree they are not necessary in the diet but neither is bread but if you can't eat bread or wheat products or oats then they are an o.k. substitute---granted--whole grain rice would be better but sometimes you need or want a crunch and not mush.

Didn't mean bread was bad--just not necessary for clean diet--I can't have it but I wish I could --so I eat rice cakes.

I think if Rice cakes are your only vice, you'll be fine. I use them as a cheat or carb load. I love them with almond Butter. Lungberg makes them with brown rice or wild rice.
