shoulder and neck pain during curls

    here's the problem
when i do bicep curls with the EZ bar or barbell, i feel soreness in my shoulders and back of my neck (not as much, but a bit) just wondering, is this normal, or am i possibly doing something wrong?
    thanks

either you're using too much weight or you're form is off. maybe you're throwing the weight up and leaning back.

i know its not my form, because there is pretty much no back movement only elbow movements, i currently use 40lbs - 50lbs, which i do for 10 easily, and can also do easily on preacher curl

you may have previously strained a muscle in your neck, I did this a while back when doing squats and I got severe pain in my neck and shoulders, which led to a headache. You should practice caution and maybe lay off the exercise causing you pain for a while.. Ignoring pain can be very bad especially when involving the neck as I found out.. I went to see my doctor and he told me to do some neck stretches and take it easy on anything that causes pain in that area.. Neck injuries usually heal well and cause no further problems if you take precautions otherwise it can further damage the surrounding tissue which can lead the support muscles surrounding your neck to weaken and cause more pain and can become chronic (on going)... Anyway I found also that strengthening through shoulder shrugs and upright rows definately stopped the pain.. I wish you good luck, I still believe you should visit the doctor to find out exactly what it is
