Your Philosophy Of Science: Puzzle Piece or Treasure Chest
Do you relate to the Puzzle Piece Philosophy of Science or to the Treasure Chest Philosophy of Science.
Puzzle Piece: One who would relate more to the Puzzle Piece Philosophy would believe that whenever a new theory of science is found, it will just add to the puzzle and the puzzle will eventually be completed answering all the questions of the universe with minor "tweaks" here and there.
Treasure Chest: This person would believe that there will always be new theories that will be better than previous ones and will only continue to help us understand the universe but we will never fully understand it because there will always be a better explanation.

I guess I am a puzzle piece person. It does seem that in science when one question is answered it creates many more. But we are filling in the pieces and increasing our knowledge all the time. I don't think we are even capable of understanding everything in the universe but for the most part we can understand the big picture so to speak.

Well, it's only one of the most profound questions possible. Can we ever know all there is to know or not? Of course we have to think about it.

Both in a way...
The Treasure Chest makes sense relative to humans. Since we will probably not survive long enough to discover the whole puzzle, relative to us, Science might prescribe to the treasure chest philosophy.
I personally though believe that technically there is a whole puzzle that could potentially be fit together by finding all the pieces. But if only we could find all the pieces.

Puzzle peice. Serious investigative science as a proper discipline founded upon formal education and peer review is a relatively young phenemenon. We have discovered an absolute crap-load of info in only the last few decades. I don't think the secrets of the universe can hold out over another say, ten thousand years of human research.

Interesting...because if it's an infinite puzzle, then it's similar to the treasure chest.
A puzzle with a finite area, but infinite possible pieces.
