    Recovering from brain AVM rupture

    Hello everyone,

11 weeks ago I had a ruptured AVM in the brain. I’m thankfully on the mend and looking to start to get back into the gym.
The AVM will be treated by ‘gamma knife’ which will take 3-5 years to kill the AVM.

I want to start going back to the gym however the consultants don’t really advise, they Said ‘it’s your choice to go to the gym, if you go take it easy. However the chance of a re bleed has doubled and there is a 4% chance now’.

They are just trying to cover themselves which is fair enough. Before the bleed I was going to the gym 4 times a week always training to failure.

Has anyone experienced something similar or has any advice around this? I’m keen to go back to the gym, however of course want to avoids risk of re bleed.

    Thankyou

If you don't want to risk a bleed, follow your doctor's advice. Get a second opinion from a different doctor who is a specialist if you doubt what they are telling you. Giving you any other recommendation would be irresponsible.

I agree. Get a 2nd opinion, get clarification. I'm pretty sure they don't mean for you to lay back on a couch all day for the rest of your life? It's more likely you're looking at a WALK but don't run way of life? With the right guidance you may well come up with a "Walk, don't run" weight training routine?

Do let us know what you learn.

People underestimate what can be achieved over a long period of time.

My experience with this? So my son required brain surgery as a 1 year old, and he can walk without support now. It took 2 years.

The most inspiring coach I have come across is a physio.

    Hope this helps.
