Rate new butcher block island table countertop I installed in my poverty tiny kitchen

Kitchen is pretty small (house is pre ww2 and has an old school layout). Im mostly ok with it because I like how its an entirely separate space from living room, family room, dining room ( I HATE open floor plans).

Anyways, think it turned out mostly ok.

I agree. this was not a full scale reno...more of a short term fix to keep me happy until I upgrade to a larger/nicer home (I swapped in new backsplash too).

I think it adds a nice pop. If it were me I would stain the top to match the cabinet colors. My house was built in 1948 by my grandfather so I'm all about small kitchens because I have one lol...

nowhere near close to 2 million (barely over 1 million) boyo and that 30k is well over my property tax bill

Looks good man. We had to do something similar, but we bought an inexpensive one from Amazon (I think it was Amazon) that is on wheels so you can move it around. House is from the 1980's I believe. Just needed assembly

Imma be honest op. Your kitchen is a bit of a cluster****.

3 different types of wood-that don’t match or contrast (4 if you count the doors)

2 different countertops materials-that don’t match or contrast

5 different whites-the countertops, backsplash grout, walls, island and door frames/case opening.


And I swear to god I’m going to choke the life out of the next sales person that convinces someone to get that Datile grey brick backsplash.

Really cheapens the look of your kitchen. Return that and pick up a Williams Sonoma kitchen island with the marble top from their outlets; they look far more substantial and will cost a few thousand but worth it.

Are your bottom cabinets a darker color than the top or is that just the lighting?

As for the island I'm not a fan. I don't like white cabinets in kitchens (my personal preference is wood colors, fave is either med to dark cherry) and it seems really stark with your nice wood colored cabinets. I think you should have tried to match the cabinet color. I like your cabinets but the white counters don't look great with them. What material are the counter tops? Surprised they didn't do granite if the house cost that much.

p.s. did you ever do any of the suggestions you got here for your formal living room?
