As a grown man I can't stand any of these, especially open world.
Even Elden Ring, a game from a series I hold closely to my heart, in my eyes made a mistake going open world.
Elden ring is the only game in the series I have not replayed multiple times, it's just way too long. I won't even bother making a new character for the dlc, I don't have another 50 hours spare.
Meanwhile I used to play through each souls game at least once a year.
Bring back tightly made games with some freedom of choice, but not open world.
And superhero/jrpg games are cringe especially if you're over the age of 18.

Yes, I still really enjoy JRPGs.
Turn based combat is a very relaxing way to game. Really the only time JRPGs wear on me is when you're forced to grind levels.
Dragonquest is still great.
Super Mario RPG is still fun.
When you say JRPG are you exclusively talking turn based or does Tales of Arise, Fire Emblem, Triangle Strategy, etc count toward that? Strategy RPGs are great games.
Ghost of Tsushima is the last open world game I really enjoyed. I tend to get burnt out on the side stuff in open world games so unless the game is really invigorating then I lose the plot and end up quitting by the 60% mark.
Super hero games? Take it or leave it. The Arkham series is good, Guardians of the Galaxy was pretty solid.***Mariah Carey is my 10/10 Crew***

Open world (Horizon, Ghost of Tsushima) or at least semi open world (Mass Effect, God of War) if done right are my favorite games to play.

Pathfinder: Kingmaker, Oblivion, WoW, Baldur's Gate I, GTA - those are all open-world and pretty good.
I often see brahs call people who play video games "manchildren" or something like that, yet every time I ask them what their hobbies are they don't reply.
I don't see the big deal about playing video games? I don't like fishing, but I won't go out of my way to diss on people who enjoy it as a pastime.Pittsburgh Penguins 5x Stanley Cup Champions

Open world games are the only best games
Just lmao at being some npc who wants to be confined to walk in a straight line
I don’t like games where you have to grind but sandbox open world where everything is given to you already is good
I don’t even do the missions in gta or red dead 2 I just do whatever
I wish there was some open world ww2 game like band of brothers style

Agreed, while I did do one playthrough of Elden Ring and it was great, it got so monotonous and tiring to the point that it just became an endless to do list. I usually play games to 100% or almost 100% completion so going through every single region, boss fight, collecting all the important items was a grind. I have no appetitte to even try the DLC.
I much prefer the tightly knit guided gameplay of Bloodborne or Dark Souls. A linear progressing masterpiece. Short, sweet, but to the point where every region has insane quality and level of detail. No fluff in between or mindless to do lists."It is easier to find men who will volunteer to die, than to find those who are willing to endure pain with patience."

Agree, I don't think I would ever replay Elden Ring. Or if so it's gonna be a long time from now. That style of game is really best for a linear map. Bloodborne did it best imo.
If you're doing an open world you need a story, and NPCs and questlines that are unique that don't feel like a checklist. I'll still be playing the DLC, esp since it should be a smaller map.▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

I do. And, I didn’t start liking jrpg until my 40’s. Before that was fps, action adventure, survival horror, and light platformers. Donkey Kong country tropical freeze, god of war, resident evil, far cry, uncharted, Tom raider were my favorites. Now jrpg my fav genre.

the irony
open world games nowadays are the most npc of all video games out there
- brb large open world but 90% of it is empty desert/grasslands/water
- brb explore a whole bunch of useless landmarks
- brb fetch a quest and run half way across the world to complete it
at least with non-open world games the resources are pooled more into creating a much more streamlined and focused game with a better storyline and gameplay.positivity brah crew

It is more pathetic than hilarious. They love to pretend like they're the only ones that care to discuss about games, but spend the majority of their time talking chit about games without ever playing them. Not everyone prefers things extremely streamlined. Streamlined doesn't equate to a better storyline. Witcher 3 is open world, so too is Red Dead 2. Go on and tell me how bad their stories are, I'm listening.
Having the freedom to run around, explore different biomes, discover landmarks and any loot/activities, enter towns and take in the sights adds alot of immersion. I get it's not appreciated by yourself and others but many people do enjoy it.
Seems like it's really cool there are different types of games that appeal to different types of gamers.▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

I like open world games. I like exploring the word to see what is out there. One thing Bethesda games are really good about is having little random unmarked encounters that you only find by walking around. I can understand that a lot of people might not like to 'waste' time like that but I'm playing for the experience and usually not the gameplay (especially Witcher 2/3).
I like JRPGs, but not as much as I used to. Like the turn based combat so I don't have to be rushed.
I lump superhero games into the third person single player type games. These games are the reason why I got a PS4 then PS5. I don't play them because they are superheroes, I like the gameplay in them (somewhat related to my first point).
I should also note that I always play games on easy. I'm not playing for a challenge, I play for the experience.
