So I started Youtube Premium and noticed they now have "Enhanced Bitrate"

It's not a higher resolution but rather a higher quality version in the settings that is only available to Youtube Premium subscribers. And the quality is better than the standard feed.

So basically I'm assuming this means that Youtube has started to hamstring the feed quality for non-paying viewers and put the good feed behind a paywall. That's some fukked up chit tbh.

It's just a relief to not deal with the constant onslaught of ads when watching Youtube on my TVs. I'll chec out Youtube music, didn't even really know it was a thing tbh.

Yeah and you can play youtube mobile with your screen off also. Might have to change it in your settings.

This. YT is basically unwatachable without premium subscription anyways. You can download an adblocker but meh, in my country, YT premium is like $3 so why not just pay it. And I heard that recently YT is increasing CPU load on those with adblockers.

YT Premium crew checking in. Worth every cent. Not just to not deal with ads but I enjoy a lot of the long form videos (basically like video podcasts) and the ability to just let it run with the screen off is great. Sucks that they crammed that behind a paywall and there are ways around it but it's always a game of cat and mouse of the browser plugin devs having to fix their plugin after YT makes changes that break them.

i just have a mini PC at my TV and use brave on it. I stopped using the android box, the only app I have left that blocks youtube ads is a POS and its easier to just use a wireless keyboard at this point.

It's all well and great but back when I used it daily at work I just couldn't be bothered trying to keep up with it. I need it to work when I want it to work, nothing would ruin my work day more than not being able to listen to my chit and having to fiddle with trying to update chit.

Honestly if you have half a brain you can just do what I did. I pay for youtube family, my sister and gf get it free, then the 3 other people I share it with, share something with me in return. So my yt red family plan bartering gets me hbo max, Spotify, and peacock.


Aside from that, I'm not a brokie so paying a few bucks per month for a platform I watch more than anything else is worth it to me.

I use Youtube Revanced, after nkitsiris(sp) posted that thread about it here. Can play music sets with the screen off, it's good.

I doubt the 'enhanced bitrate' is worth it. For real audio I use Amazon Music HD.

my kids have youtube premium on their ipads (share account so just one $10 a month fee) My wife logins to youtube music so thats 3 users for $10 a month

but on my phone i have the hacked youtube that gives me all the premium benefits basically

regardless if i'm watching a youtube video on my phone i'm using 720p no matter what.. 1080p and 720p on a 6 inch screen isn't game changing what so ever especially if i'm on mobile data where you can run into buffering due to spotty cell signal.
