Figured this could be a welcomed change from the usual Covid, vaccine, ClownWorld, or other topics being discussed. And it could provide a thread for more nuanced discussion since we are all walking through these issues together for the first time so a lot of people haven’t done the thought exercises on various views.
What are your thoughts on deepfakes being used without a persons permission? Obviously there are already being used for nefarious reasons. A simple example would be to deepfake an audio of a person’s voice, then use that to call loved ones and have the voice say they are kidnapped and in danger so a ransom should be paid. That’s an obvious one because it is criminal activity. But what if someone generates an AI porno using their oneitis, or using your mom. Not as easy to answer. And if you’re good with that, what if someone does that with a child. If your logic is that it’s not a real person so it’s ok, then technically they could have TBs of AI generated child porn.
Again, there are already rules to make it illegal to use those for criminal purposes(like ransom) but what if someone is just minding their own business in their house and making things with an extremely powerful AI tool? What would be the line to cross between making things for entertainment(like Joe Biden talking about fat asses) or purposefully trying to incite fear or violence by manipulating people using AI.
I’d be interested to hear discussion from both sides. As usual my default is to lean more towards the free speech side of things, but it has the potential to be a difficult subject to navigate. What are your thoughts?

Very good question and makes.for a good discussion and debate with illtelligent peoples.
Im.not sure there is any one correct answer to it though.
I think we could go back and fourth with the pros and.cons that come with it.
I sort of see it like fixing a computer. You are trying to fix a problem but by fixing that one problem it can create other problems...
Also like putting a firearm in someone's hand. What's going to determine if that act was good or bad is if the hand you put the gun in was the hand of a good man/woman who will use it properly and for the greater good or if that person is going to use it for his or her own personal selfish reasons.
Then it can also be said regardless of that answer it can set a dangerous precedent if allowed.
If you start stripping the people's individual rights and freedoms in the name.of public good where does it end especially when what is deemed good or bad changes on the whim of politicians. Politicans which we all know probably can't be trusted and do everything for their own interest.
So what is deemed good today when it comes to laws on the books could easily be deemed bad next year according to the laws on the books.
I think when it comes to some things there just can not be any compromising somethings must stay rock solid steady. When you allow for wiggle.room that wiggling over.time can cause cracks and cracks eventually cause breaks and when strings in the system start to break. Eventually the harmony is gone..."it takes a wise man to know when he is in error and a noble man to admit to it"

What ibn the fukcing world is this?
I've never encountered something like this... An image that tries to download itself as a format I've not dealt with. I tried to open in new tab to view the tiny pic, and...can't... Just some download nonsense of an avif file... Can you post a larger version of this?

We need stronger laws and an agency in charge of data protection and data theft.
We need all ai created artwork/projects/videos to be self identifying and transparent in how it gathered the data it used to create what it did.
I’m typically against regulations in general, but it’s a necessity of new technologies. And if I want the line to be drawn up anywhere, it’s at the base level for protecting human freedoms and rights to their own information, not a free for all for whoever can vacuum up the most data.

I see AI as just an incremental evolution of what already exists and it shouldn't be directly interfered with. Use the existing laws as much as possible and adapt them only if/when absolutely needed.
For a while now people have been easily intentionally and/or unintentionally fooled with advertisements, art, news, social media, music, (think Milli Vanilli, War of the Worlds, Alex Jones) or make up their own realities when they don't understand something (religion, moon landing, 9/11).
So the commonality of the problem is people are kinda stupid.
On the optimistic side, maybe we need to go through the growing pains of what's to come. Once nothing can be trusted anymore hopefully we'll get better at recognizing what's real.

I’m trying to follow your reasoning here.
Ai is an incremental evolution of what? What do you mean by what already exists.
Then you talk about people being psy-oped by advertisement/media
Are you trying to compare people being psychologically manipulated to being tricked by ai into thinking something is real? What about the rest of the issues.
Systemic risk developing in stock market as high frequency trading has made untenable nonsensical positions a norm, while Aladdin will eventually deposit every share of every publicly traded company into BlackRock and cos pockets.
We have programs stealing peoples art and images and ideas and repackaging them, then having a better sales script etc..
We have companies blatantly stealing our data with no consequences. Then it is used to appropriately manipulate you. A lot of the times it won’t even matter if you know it is happening, because they trap you in a win/win for them just by exposing you to the right play after analyzing you enough.
I see a lot more problems than just “people are stupid and can’t tell what’s what”“Man’s image of the nature of man is not only a matter for objective inquiry; it is and has always been a prime instrument of social and political control. He who moulds that image does so with enormous consequences for the society in which he lives.”

An easy example of the incremental evolution is music. First people sang and played instruments in a room, the musicians and instruments and listeners had to all be in the same room for it to work. It was undeniably real and tangible. Then we learned how to record music on wax and later magnetic tape, the listeners no longer had to be in the room but the musicians and equipment did. Then we learned how to edit magnetic tape to create something different than what the musician played. Then digital recording allowed musicians to be anywhere and instruments to be virtual representations and shows to be prerecorded. Now digital editing is often the art form in itself. Next up, instruct the machine (AI) to do the editing and presentation for you.
If you buy music, do you know what you are buying? Nope. You haven't since the day you bought a ticket and walked into the room with everyone else.
Financial fraud and theft of intellectual property has long been a problem and already a crime. We need to keep up with the new mechanisms but we're not really facing anything "new", its an incremental evolution.

If the material depicts child pornography then I assume it would fit under the existing illegality.
If it was more like the porn people made with AOC it could fall under some sort of artistic license unfortunately.
That’s speaking to criminal law and wouldn’t exclude taking civil action.
There is also the modern reality of having to be careful about posting pics of your family anywhere online to try and minimize the potential.

Maybe the modern reality should have some more protections and rights for people to have privacy with their data and harsher punishments for companies like google who don’t give a fuk about what’s legal or not.
Chit like harvesting data packets from wifi they drive past while mapping google maps.
All targeted advertisements generated off stolen data.
Etc..
Data is a literal fukking goldmine for these people and they take and take and take and there’s no real enforcement or punishments. They make so much money, well some more of it needs to start being invested in consumer protection.“Man’s image of the nature of man is not only a matter for objective inquiry; it is and has always been a prime instrument of social and political control. He who moulds that image does so with enormous consequences for the society in which he lives.”

Is it child pornography if it isn’t a real person? Honest question because I don’t know what the laws are. If someone draws a picture of a naked child is it child pornography, because if not then perverts could make a case that the AI generated content is just animation on a much greater scale.
I think this conversation is going more down the data privacy road, and that’s fine because it’s also a conversation that needs to be had so I’m fine with discussion in the thread going wherever it may. From that aspect I think Europe has a better approach to things with their GDPR laws that lean more towards being in favor of the citizens than in favor of big tech. But that’s just America for you, basically owned by big corporations and acting accordingly. But you do make a decent point about the consumers agreeing to the terms and conditions. However, with society leaning more and more towards requiring a participating member of society to exist in the digital realm, or at least utilize resources and tools found there, then it makes the case of terms and conditions more tricky. What if your power company suggested that as a term of accepting their power they can get access to all of your digital information. Not the greatest analogy, but in the same vein and getting closer by the year with how much we depend on the internet to function. There are ways to help minimize your digital footprint, but it can get very convoluted and difficult(very likely by design), and requires consistent monitoring. Which goes back to my point about GDPR and how it is a better approach for citizens.+positive crew+

I was thinking about the porn question earlier, an actor or victim can’t be underage if they don’t exist. I think the standard definition of porn is “you know it when you see it” and some states might have laws against things that intend to look like child porn even if it’s not. I don’t actually know tho.

I’d say this is a valid aspect to bring up. The censorship and bias programmed into a lot of these platforms is evident to anyone who has used them. From that perspective it’s easy to see how they will just be used to further push agendas. We already have an issue with large percentages of the population outsourcing their critical thinking, who will just parrot whatever the narrative is. Whether it’s Covid, vaccines, global warming, Ukraine, white privilege, clown world tranny stuff, and on and on… lots of people just readily accept what they’re spoon fed. These platforms provide giant corporations an avenue to further push agendas, and do so in a way that may appear to have even more authority, even though, again, it’s evident that certain narratives were programmed in. For example ask ChatGPT about the lab leak theory. It will still openly and adamantly bullsh!t you about it since it was supposedly cut off in 2021. Yet today the theory is widely accepted by lots of people and not considered a conspiracy theory anymore.
Cliffs - just another tool to continue to perfect the programming and demoralization of society.+positive crew+
