I looked further into this story. The man was using a machete to take out the cougar but sadly the dog did not make it. A major artery was hit and pipes were crushed, not to mention they would of needed amputation for their legs. It was that bad. Poor pup was put down at the animal hospital. They are calling the lab a hero though. Can't imagine if the cougar went for the man instead. Sad the lab had to pay the price but the fact of the matter is if the lab hadn't been there the man surely would of been targeted instead.

Poor dog. srs. I feel so bad for the man too because he did all he could to save his dog. At least it died at the vet being cared for and not with a cougar on it's throat with the owner just standing there screaming or holding a phone. Dude went full caveman and the cougar died under his boot being reminded that it's not at the top of the food chain.
Stupid cat should have let go but chose to hang on and get hacked to death. Pretty brutal death that was deserved.
