i think you have pro's that do that chit all the time that could prob do it
and then you can over intellectualize it and do it as well
its similar to language that is made up but is made cohesive. you make certain items points and build off of that
you can see some of the people on that show intellectualize it; timing, beats, what notes are being played, how long the song is, where certain peaks and stuff are.. and then go from there
so yea i think its possible
and chad messes up but covers it up. he even breaks his stick in the middle of it

what he did was play the snare notes perfectly in time which any drummer with basic knowledge could do with "mainstream" music. If the snare hits are in time you can pretty much do whatever you want on the rest of the kit
drumming gets hard when you get into odd time signatures and off beats. Like Dream Theater, Rush, Tool etcStats: 6 foot, 240 pounds
