No doubt it’s real. Good drummers can deconstruct songs into pieces they can apply beats and fills to, and they know exactly what will work where

Chad Smith of RHCP is a fantastic drummer and this is very legit. You can hear when he gets in a groove and doesn't recognize a change and then corrects himself after a measure or two. Drumeo (the site this video comes from ) is an excellent resource

I got into an instagram debate when I said the same thing and all his butt hurt fans came to defend him. I asked them to provide examples of his "amazing drumming" and non could produce anything

i think you have pro's that do that chit all the time that could prob do it

and then you can over intellectualize it and do it as well

its similar to language that is made up but is made cohesive. you make certain items points and build off of that

you can see some of the people on that show intellectualize it; timing, beats, what notes are being played, how long the song is, where certain peaks and stuff are.. and then go from there

so yea i think its possible

and chad messes up but covers it up. he even breaks his stick in the middle of it

My uncle does it all the time.Hes a pro who has played with a few famous bands. He will put on a song and drum it pretty much perfectly.

what he did was play the snare notes perfectly in time which any drummer with basic knowledge could do with "mainstream" music. If the snare hits are in time you can pretty much do whatever you want on the rest of the kit

drumming gets hard when you get into odd time signatures and off beats. Like Dream Theater, Rush, Tool etc

He's pretty solid. Competent drummers can definitely pick up the sticks and play to songs that have drums removed, it's not that crazy. You could hear him being slightly late on some of the sections, but it never fell outta time or groove. Just intensity adjustments.
