tendons at elbows very sore
I just started to work out with free weights. mainly for my biceps. i do 175 pushups a day and situps 175 a day and have been doing those for several months with no problem. i started free weights at only 50 lbs. and did only 3 sets of 15 reps each with no problem at all. i steretched before and after. i woke up the next day with terrible pain in the tendons at my elbows. is there anything i can supplemnt in my diet that may help with the elasticity of my tendons? My work is very phisical and keeps me in good shape. my biceps are my weakest link and i want to work them to gain porportion with the rest of my body. i only have 8% body fat and was told that my bone density is starting to deminish slightly. most likely age related. I am involved with a life scan research institute with wright state university. thats how i know all that. I have started calcium and zinc, magnesim vitamin supplements to try ad hlp offset any calcium deficiency. is there any thing i can do for tendons?

Hi Jim
Hi Jim
Welcome to the Seniors section of the board. We have discussed this issue at length in the over 35's here recently, and I myself had elbow/tendon problems. I trained light for a period and supplemented with glucosamine to find the pain going away just in time as I am now cutting for Natural National Champs here. I've posted links to the threads.

i recently had the same problem,,,,,,,except i was already lifting for months..then all of a sudden the tendon in my right elbow started hurting......what i did was changed where i gripped the barbell while doing curls...i found that i must use a little bit of narrow grip instead of let's say a normal or wider grip...in other words i suggest you play around with how wide your hands are apart....
i also found this article ....don't know if any of this will help ..i hope it does.......

Lateral Epicondylitis...
...is what the doc calls my elbow pain. A fancy kind of tendonitis or "tennis elbow", which is peculiar because I don't play tennis.
I've started using a roll-on product that uses Emu Oil as a primary ingredient and also has capsaicin and some other stuff. Seems to be working well for me. I slop a bunch of it on about 30 minutes before working out.

Jim, welcome! I am also a newbie here, great bunch!
Where is the pain? Is it on the inside of your elbow? If so I would try a strap for tennis elbow on the upper part of your forearm. Works for me everytime! If it's on the outside of your elbow, I have heard glucosamine is a good supp.

Jim:
I'm a brandnew "kid" on the block and this is my 1st post/reply.
I've had same problem recently. Am almost 54, lift 5 on - 2 off using MAX OT approach. After therapy, elbow braces, massage, etc. didn't fix it, I tried cortisone shots from a sports medicine doc. Although, I'd use it as a last resort, it did work for me..........
and still is. Good luck!

just yesterday i trained my shoulders and today i woke up with a sore elbow joint and i discovered it was because i locked out my arms during the workout (behind neck military press + arnold press)
it is probably that so from now on i know what they meant when they say "never lock out your arms"
peace everyone
