Everyday, we get arguments here. A lot are entertaining, but makes me wonder if you guys actually play and finish them.
I see a lot of people defending a game, give it high praise, but hardly talk about the actual game. More talks about sales, graphics, and game mechanics that can easily be Googled.
I only see a few games in this section where people talk about the story progress, etc. Baldur's Gate 3, Horizon 2, Mass Effect games back then, and even TLOU. The rest, not so much.

I try out most of the games we talk about here. Certain games I know I don't need to try because I won't like them.
Xbox/ps5/pc master race. I don't do switch, because I know I don't like the majority of their games. I don't need to try them out to know that.
This forum is ps5 dominated. So yes, that's mostly why you only see people talking about the games you listed. People barely even post in the Xbox or pc sticky. They just aren't the popular platforms here.
Besides all there is to talk about in most Sony games is the story. Spiderman for example... What is there to talk about other than the story? Gameplay loop is basic as hell, light attack, heavy attack, jump attack, Quick time event, cinematic event, repeat. Bosses aren't really hard like elden ring. most of the Sony games don't have different "builds" like say cyberpunk, so it's not like there's a ton of variation in people's experiences to be spoken about.Sometimes I park in handicap spaces, while handicap people make handicap faces

Yes. We measure how dead a platform is based on the 15 active users in this section.
Did you know that the actual majority of gamers aren't on forums and don't spend their time worried about console wars and what developer quit what company?
Do you think the millions of people buying cod and Spiderman are registered on any type of internet forum other than typical social media sites? If Spiderman sold 2 million copies day one, maybe like 50k people are playing it and then going online to talk about it.
The people like us, on forums talking about games and the game industry, must be a tiny percent of people gaming.Sometimes I park in handicap spaces, while handicap people make handicap faces

I can reduce Elden Ring the same way if I wanted to mimic your retardism.
Light attack, heavy, panic roll 350 times from enemy attacks while panic healing, opening arrives, light, heavy, rinse repeat till hp bar goes down.
Regardless of your build the combat works the same way, you "git good" by learning the enemy moveset.▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

Comparing elden ring to Spiderman is pure cope tho.
Elden ring has a huge variety of weapons and builds and does not rely on cinematic quick time events in every encounter. Those devs made their bones with their combat and build systems. Elden ring/sekiro/dark souls... All their combat is revered all across gaming. There's an entire game genre people call "souls like" because of them.
Spiderman is 100 percent on the rails. The actual combat you get is very basic, and the best parts of it are all scripted/qte. You aren't even actually playing when the coolest chit on the screen occurs. You are just pressing x. There isn't any "builds" you can do in Spiderman, you just go through the unlock system and get everything unlocked if you play long enough.Sometimes I park in handicap spaces, while handicap people make handicap faces

If its a game I really enjoy I make it a goal to beat the game. Some times more than once on different difficulty settings.
Half life
Ocarina of time
Goldeneye
Many games.
If not beat when it comes to old school games like galaga. I always strive to turn it over not to mention higher levels."it takes a wise man to know when he is in error and a noble man to admit to it"

Sure, it was the first game. How great was the combat in Demon's Souls? Miles Morales got a decent upgrade to the combat and I'm sure SM2 takes it even further.
Also, builds in Elden Ring are fine but they don't change the core gameplay at all. Have you played it? All weapons work the same basic way, minus difference in reach and swing and your approach to combat is the same in every scenario. It comes down to learning enemy moves, when to dodge and when to attack.
Let's compare it to Gow Ragnarok. There are far less weapons but you got a much larger movelist, much more special attacks and the dodging is much faster, allowing you to find openings to interrupt a boss. You can't do that in ER, once the enemy commits to their string you have no choice but to avoid or block till they stop.▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

Every single weapon in ER has a unique chain of attacks or moveset, and if it isn't a god weapon they are further customizable with replacement ashes of war. On top of that they can be imbued with different elemental or spirit attacks and all have huge effects on gameplay. A blood/arcane build vs a strength/fire build vs a dex/lightning build are going to play the game completely differently. It's almost like playing a different game the way the boss encounters go. And there are probably a dozen more different builds.

Different builds are fun but you're mostly sticking to one per playthrough. I found most of the gameplay loop isn't having you perform a bunch of cool moves or strings, it's mostly about learning enemy attacks and how to avoid, wait for an opening, get a few hits in and disengage. Parries just aren't a consistent thing since you can't do them vs most boss attacks and you can't really interrupt bosses.
Again, I'm using Ragnarok because burnerbrain said Sony games have bad combat... But in that game there's so many more combos, juggling different weapons, different types of dodges, different parries, juggling 3 different weapons with different moves and special moves, and you can interrupt enemies and go in for more damage. Plus you have a secondary character which you issue commands to. Master that and the gameplay turns into one badass dance. I had more fun with it. Example:
I haven't seen a souls fight look anywhere near as impressive.▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

I said this, only about Spiderman.
Gameplay loop is basic as hell, light attack, heavy attack, jump attack, Quick time event, cinematic event, repeat.
Again, I'm using Ragnarok because burnerbrain said Sony games have bad combat..

So, me saying the main thing to talk about in most Sony games is the story somehow is me saying all the combat is bad. OK got it.
I guess I can understand that misinterpretation but no. It's a comment on how Sony games focus on story and cinematics. It's not me saying they all have bad combat.Sometimes I park in handicap spaces, while handicap people make handicap faces

You're doing it again, changing your words.
You said ALL there is to talk about Sony games is the story. Gameplay is a pretty fuking important part of a game, I would imagine. If ALL there is to talk about a game is the story, that directly implies the gameplay is bad.
Really poor attempt to wriggle yourself out of this one, trying to say I'm deliberately misrepresenting you when I'm going directly off your own post. You fuking queer.Last edited by Coal Man; 10-25-2023 at 01:10 PM.

I try to just generalize my posts most of the time and then I have to break them down anyways because your goofy ass is going to nitpick everything I say because your my biggest fan so I guess I'll try to elaborate.
I mean that in a general sense. All there is to talk about is the story. Is it REALLY all there is to talk about? lol, no. Of course there is gameplay.
But idk compared to say cyberpunk, or elden ring... where there's lots of gameplay options like character builds and an open world approach. versus tlou, where it's very linear, no build variety unless you count which weapons you choose to carry.Sometimes I park in handicap spaces, while handicap people make handicap faces

I play the majority of (the bigger) games and give them a fair shot and base my opinion on it. Whether I bother finishing em up is a different question, but I play enough to form an actual opinion over just saying "It sucks".
I'd also say the reason we don't get much discussion here is that majority of the people here are still stuck in their teenage phase where multiplayer shooters and games like cod, battlefield, counterstrike and diablo were revered. Nobody bother's branching out to the many different other games that are doing things so much better now. Most people just want to be a safe bubble where things are familiar. Most of the legacy franchises which were big back in the day for the most part are not as great ... I mean they're still popular and bring in huge numbers/sales, but I think there's a higher number of games now that offer the same, if not better offerings.
The only person that I know that plays DRG on this forum is Subzerobrah (forgot his username lmao) ... and that's one of the best co-op multiplayer released which can bring out a ton of discussion, because irl with my friends we are constantly talking about new builds, the next event, the next deep dive etc.
Look at Coal, I didn't think he'd actually play something like Baldcel Gay 3 because iirc he said he wasn't big on turn-based/high barrier to entry nerd mechanic like dnd in game form, but dude gave it a fair shot and seems to love the game for what it is.Sig line can't be a novel

I try to finish games but it takes me way longer nowadays. Mario Wonder only took me two sittings, but anything with a story winds up taking months. Ghost of Tsushima was a somewhat recent one that held my attention to power through quickly. Dead Island 2 didn't really hold my attention but it was solid enough. Tried to give Assassins Creed Valhalla a stab and maybe play Mirage, but I'm just bored with it.
