Abhorrent scenes at Sydney Opera House: Palestine supporters shouting "Gas the Jews"

Angry pro-Palestine protesters marched to the Sydney Opera House on Monday and appeared to chant "gas the Jews" and "f--- the Jews," according to an Australian media report.

The protesters also lit off flares, according to Sky News Australia.

A video of part of the protest, which began peacefully earlier in the day, was posted to X -- formerly known as Twitter -- by the Australian Jewish Association.

Fahad Ali, a Palestinian biologist at the University of Sydney and one of the protest's organizers and speakers, said in a post to X that antisemitism "has no place in our movement," and said he quickly shut down the chants from a "group of idiots" who were a minority among the larger crowd.


"This behaviour was not only vulgar, but completely selfish: it has served as a distraction from the immense human suffering in Gaza and calls for genocide and collective punishment by Israeli officials," Ali said.

The protest comes as more than 1,000 Israeli and Palestinian civilians have been killed following an initial attack over the weekend by the militant group Hamas against Israeli targets.

Israel has since inundated Gaza with bombs and rockets in retaliation for the surprise attack and the two sides have continued fighting along the border between Israel and the Gaza Strip.

The bloodshed has drawn condemnations around the world from Israeli allies including leaders in the United States, France, Germany and the United Kingdom.

Some members of Congress have also criticized Israel's role in the conflict, calling the Jewish nation an "apartheid state."

Difficult to see how supporting Hamas makes you anything apart from an unadulterated terrorist sympathiser. It's the equivalent of supporting ISIS and should be treated accordingly.


Western anti-zionists are going to use this conflict to promote their hateful ideology at all costs. Apparently Australian police have even warned Jews to avoid the area because of the threat to their safety. Worse still, when you try to quell these gatherings they tend to escalate, like last time when Muslims flipped out in Sydney over some video from French media that portrayed Mohammed poorly.
