I didn't really enjoy DOS1 myself.... But if you're putting that same opinion to DOS2 / Baldurs Gate 3 then you're definitely wrong and it would certainly be a Jay level of a take.
Yeah it's fine. It's a completely new story save for some fan favorite characters returning but you can safely play this game. It has nothing to do with the older baldurs gate games in any shape or form other than just sharing a name.

You can buy it now in early access and it'll unlock to the full version at release at no extra cost. At least this way you can get a good feel for the classes / mechanics.
Early access gives you full access to Act 1 of the game, so there's no "spoilers" of any kind as what's in the game, will be on final release save for more content + some other changes.
The early access game is already far better than most full priced games lol.... But yeah, its just two weeks to go.Sig line can't be a novel

I don't really play CRPGs for the combat. I'm more of a Hack 'n' Slash type of guy. You should see how I beat Arcanum, lol. Brb no wait mode and whack them until they are dead while spamming health potions. I'm usually there for the lore, the dialogue, the story and the vistas. There's always something epic to see and experience in those games.
Planescape and BG 2 actually had interesting characters, but I didn't care for any of the characters in PoE2 and D:OS2. It's the little things in PoE2 that made it fun for me, like renaming an island after clearing it. Also, the lore wasn't bad at all. It's fun when games let you customize your own ship or Caed Nua Keep in the first game, where you can go deeper down the levels and encounter interesting events. The Forgotten Sanctum was actually a fun location to play.
Agree about Pathfinder (both of the modern ones), but not Pillars. Wrath of the Righteous was alright, though. The characters were more interesting than Kingmaker.

Yeah, got the same preferences.
Liked Kingmaker in the beginning but then dropped it around the 2/3rd mark, the kingdom management part was just tedious and didn't really care about most of the companions.
Wrath was epic though (dat soundtrack) and it finally managed to scratch that BG2 itch. Put 300+ hours in over 3+ playthroughs, haven't tried any of the DLCs though. Rogue Trader is a day one buy for me.

DOS:1 definitely has a story and lots of choices. One of the big things that got me in the series was that almost every problem has multiple solutions. If you don't wanna do a puzzle or quest often you can just brute force your way through it. Overall that game was definitely a bit unpolished though and I can't go back to it and enjoy it after playing so much DOS:2.
I remember on my first playthrough with a buddy we accidentally skipped a semi-big part of the game and at another part instead of doing any quests we just decided to murder the entire village. It's fine to think a game is bad or just not enjoy playing it but it's weird to just make up lies about it. It quite clearly classifies as an RPG that has a storyline and gives the player different choices.
