I don't know about this. Georgia was probably the most talented team I agree but they really played very poorly for a lot of the year. They played like trash against SC, Auburn, Tech, and Bama this year. Obviously Bama was the only one that bit them because the other teams are horrible.

They lost a lot of people from 2022 and while they were still very good they were very clearly susceptible to being beaten too.

I agree. Additionally, Michigan had a dominant year, 11 wins by 20+ points. Arguably their down game was Alabama, but still managed to rush for 130 yards and well over 4 yards/carry whereas Georgia's ground game was stuffed all day long.

I agree they were still the most talented and should win if they show up every single time but the talent difference wasn't so wide that they could have off games and escape against good teams. Last years team was practically an NFL team. Even if they weren't at their best they were probably going to beat even the better teams.

Pretty much this. Main issue was the defensive front not being as stout. Also hard to replace Bennett, although Beck was decent.

The Alabama game probably would have been a blowout as well if Michigan didn't repeatedly shoot themselves in the foot.

NCAA president says Michigan earned football national title 'fair and square'

PHOENIX -- NCAA president Charlie Baker said Michigan's football national championship was earned "fair and square," and that his organization's "unusual decision" to share information about cheating allegations during the season should help to eliminate doubts about the legitimacy of the Wolverines' title run.

Baker said the NCAA decided to alert both Michigan and the Big Ten simultaneously this October after it received "very compelling" information that the Wolverines were involved in a broad and unusual sign-stealing scheme.

Those conversations resulted in the Big Ten suspending coach Jim Harbaugh for the final three games of the regular season. They also prompted Michigan analyst Connor Stalions to resign and the team to fire assistant coach Chris Partridge in November.

Bringing those allegations into the public domain, Baker said, allowed Michigan and its opponents to adjust and erased any potential unfair advantages for the Wolverines during the final month of the regular season and throughout its postseason run.

Michigan completed its 15-0 season by beating five ranked opponents in its final six games, all of which came after Stalions resigned.

"I don't regret doing it because sitting on that information, given the comprehensiveness of it, I think we would have put everyone including Michigan in an awful place," Baker said Tuesday night while speaking to a small group of reporters at the NCAA convention. "At the end of the day, no one believes at this point that Michigan didn't win the national title fair and square. So I think we did the right thing."

The NCAA's investigation into Michigan's alleged cheating scheme remains open. The football program is also under investigation for alleged recruiting violations, for which Harbaugh served a university-imposed three-game suspension at the start of the 2023 season.

Harbaugh and the team could receive additional sanctions for both pending cases.

Baker said he did not know what those penalties might be or when they would arrive. He said the NCAA infractions team is working on finding ways to move faster with its process. In the sign-stealing case, Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti had to employ a controversial interpretation of the league's sportsmanship policy to levy any punishment during the season in which alleged violation occurred.

"We do have a series of discussions going on with the infractions folks about whether or not we can't do something to speed up the pace of our investigations," Baker said. "Certainly in a case like this, we'd like to be able to move a lot more quickly."

Baker said he hopes the investigation will pick up speed now that the season is over and the Michigan coaching staff will be more readily available to speak to investigators.

"I get that people had a lot on their plates," Baker said.

So the investigation isn't over, but the words from the president of the NCAA are pretty telling here. Michigan is likely getting away with it what a joke. The NCAA’s grip is slipping so I’m sure they are just going to try and rock the boat as little as possible in order to prevent people pushing for even more changes which reduce NCAA’s power/control.

But they’ve always been inconsistent with handing out punishment. Just look at what Auburn blatantly got away with with Cam Newton. Other similar stories from that era while some schools got hammered pretty hard for a fraction of the violations.

They won the last half of the games of their season fair, as well as the playoff games. But there's still 2.5 years of cheating there. As well as the other teams having to spend time changing their signs. I just want consistency in discipline, and this just isn't that. We've had several various instances of lesser offenses (USC, OSU, ND, Louisiana) get vacated seasons. This gave UM an advantage on the field. Like I said if this season stands, the just thing to do would be to reinstate the wins for all those teams (and the title for USC + Reggie's Heisman).

No one would have given AF that Michigan won the title if they hadn't been cheating, hell most of the country would probably think it's a good story (well except for OSU fans they would be pissed regardless). There's a reason that most people are pissed off right now and it's not that they just don't like UM in general.

At least they are from that state. Like 80% of college football fans didn't attend the school they went to. They're either bandwagon, supporting a local team, or supporting a family team.

Take Notre Dame for example. Under 9k enrollment, yet a fanbase that's millions strong nationwide. Alumni couldn't even come close to accounting for those numbers. Michigan's enrollment is significantly higher at 30k, but same principle applies to a lesser extent.

Hear me out, Oregon will get at least 4 losses in the Big 10. Dan Lanning is all bark no bite and a mediocre at best coach. He can run his mouth against a rebuilding Colorado team but will realize real fast why his best place is being a lap dog to Kirby Smart if he ever wants to sniff a championship.

Appreciate the optimism but unfortunately I was right. With all the talk being about the new look on offense, the reality is the defense will also have a new look when you gut all the coaches. Scheme was a new look, as were results.
