6 weeks of bench gains

Went from a shaky 365 with 2/10 form to a much cleaner faster 370 with like 6/10 form


Honestly felt like I could've hit 380. Bodyweight still at 179.

+5 lb. in 6 weeks ain't amazing but I'll take the much improved speed and stability.

ty m8. Tbh I think the one big difference was better stability. I had the strength for 365 all day but if you watch, my elbow flares out badly mid press and completely kills my drive. Fixing that really helped me push through the sticking point.

Never say never mate. I'm lifetime natty and while the progress has gotten very slow it still is there. I was at 300 lb. bench by 16, so it's taken 14 years to add 70 more lb.

Although in that time my physique has improved, and I spent a long time working to just maintain strength while cutting. I been benching 365 since 2020 but I was 190 lb. then so I consider it 'gains' to have gotten back to it at sub 180.

I almost bitched out of maxing that day, 355x2 did not go well the week before. My spotter hyped me up though and I went for it

Thanks mate, that was part of a bodyweight bench press competition (so I was weighing 195 ish then)


I'd smoke that now though, I'm at 225x24 or so. Probably could get 195 for mid 30's and I weigh like 15 lb. less. might get frisky and do another bodyweight press, see if I can hit 180 x 40.

Hows your pulling compared to your push ? I dont really see many guys pushing that kind of weight so curious what your numbers for are for deadlift, single arm db row and chin ups.

I can hit about 26-28 pull ups in a single set, and max out at +100 lb. or so.

I single arm DB row 100's for sets of 10-12 (heaviest DB my gym has).

I went to snap city so I don't deadlift anymore but some of my best pulls were 455x10 and 585 max (no vid for the latter, rip). I think the heaviest I have on vid is 562 but 0/10 form and it was 8 years ago.

It's mostly form and practice. I'm not that terribly cockstrong, pretty average at things I don't do often. You'd think I could throw around 150 lb. dumbbells but I probably max at like 120, just don't ever train them for max. Goes to show you get good at what you repeatedly do.

I've made a mental goal to hit it by the end of the year. If I can keep adding +5 lb. every 6 weeks that'd be about 395-400 in december. As if +5 lb. every 6 weeks is some walk in the park lol but gonna try.

The most notable thing isn't the weight, it's that OP has been doing it for years chasing weight.

Most people destroy their shoulders very quickly with bench.

Some people are built for it though I suppose. That alpha destiny guy is another example.

Yeah endomorph body type has been a plague my whole life, but this is one aspect where it's been great for me. I have dealt with some minor shoulder issues, AC joint pain and minor pec strains, etc. but have never taken more than a week off of bench since I was 13

If so yeah, it was kind of lucky. Really had to leg drive with full on butt in the air to get the weight going again but at least I didn't get pinned.
