just download camscanner or other scan app on your phone and take photos of the paper and email it from there. it makes it look like it was scanned by a scanner, and don't got to worry about dinosaur printer tech that is a scam

Authenticated SMTP relay? Open/anonymous relay? Relay locked down to certain IPs? Assuming that the printer is actually making a network connection to the relay my guess is it has to do with the way the relay is configured and not allowing the printer for one or more reasons.

They probably don't support the correct encryption that your mail handler is using. This is a common issue with older printers. There may be a firmware issue that will take care of this. More likely than not, there isn't, and you either have to downgrade your email security, or buy new printers.

You may have to allow less secure connections in your exchange admin portal. You may also have to create an app password to circumvent 2FA requirements.

You can try making a GMAIL account and see if it works via smtp on gmail. Important, you have to make an app password in the GMail settings that you then use as the password on the SMTP client.

You can see if outbound port 587 is blocked by opening command prompt (is telnet is enabled) or some other telnet client. Type:
telnet smtp.office365.com 587

If you see a response, you know the port is open.




I think dnsexit has an email relay service that is pretty cheap. I think they offer a free trial too. Their smtp relay supports all the normal ports along with port 80 as an option too.

Also there are the same exact make/model printers? Its odd both would lose config after a power outage but maybe if they are. I would suspect the firewall/switch/router config reset being the single point of failure over two devices separately losing config.

SMTP is not a complicated protocol really. If the username/pw, port, and address are configured correctly on the printers its network related.

Do the users have to auth to the printers themselves with a login to use them?

But listing those things are all correct things to check, and the problem is going to be one of those things.
