The PS5 has been out for less than three years, but a higher-spec version may already be in development. A new report from Insider Gaming claims that a hypothetical PS5 Pro is already in the works, and that Sony is targeting a late-2024 release window. Like the PS4 Pro, this PS5 Pro would have better specs than the base console, allowing for better visuals and performance.
Alongside its own unnamed sources, the report cites a recent patent filed by PlayStation console architect Mark Cerny that looks to boost the performance of ray tracing tech as a possible reason for this PS5 Pro. It also claims that the next generation of PlayStation consoles, the PS6, will not be released until at least 2028.
The report itself notes that the logic of this PS5 Pro is very much up for debate, given recent chip shortages limiting supply of the console until recently. It's also unclear to what extent developers have pushed the limits of the existing PS5 hardware, as most PS5 games have released on the PS4 as well.
This isn't the first time that an Insider Gaming report has claimed information about new PS5 hardware. Back in September 2022, the outlet reported that Sony was planning to release a new version of the PS5 that would feature a detachable disc drive through USB-C.

What's the point, they're just using off the shelf parts now. The whole premise of consoles is dumb.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

Tom Henderson, a gaming journalist known to have pretty reliable sources, is reporting that Sony is planning to release PS5 Pro as soon as 2024, with the generation lasting through at least 2028. The goal of the PS5 Pro is primarily to boost resolution and ray tracing performance in games.

Eh bit of a slap in the face for people finally just able to get their hands on a ps5. There's barely any "next Gen" games out for ps5 as it is.... And what are they gunna do go back and remaster ps5 games for ps5 pro? Make devs release free graphic upgrades for ps5 pro users? How much will it cost me outside of buying a ps5 pro? Already spent a good chunk on ps5 games, fukkin lol if they tried to nickel and dime people for ps5 pro game upgrades.

Nice. Hope devs unlock the frame rates for the “quality” modes for already released games.
Both Ms and Sony are letting cross gen go as of the end of the second year of the new consoles, about end of 2022. Almost everything going forward for them now is current gen only. Third party will be a bit behind, but we are already seeing the transition happen.-Engineering Crew

Lmao I seriously don't understand why. Most of the games for PS5 don't even look next gen. Don't know what else they're supposed to get out of a Pro.
Imagine buying a Pro (if you already have a PS5) when there isn't fk all worth a **** to even play on PS5. Seems like a big investment to develop another console when they already can't even release exclusives at any decent rate. (Or at least any that or worth a damn.)

Good
Advance the power of the systems ASAP because they are falling off already hard
They barely do 4k now
Playing the same games on my Xbox Series X or PS5 then hopping over to my PC with a 3080 12gb
The difference is crazy even though both are running "4k"Future P.A in progress
We're all gonna make it

I reaaaaaaallly doubt it. I'd be very surprised if the Pro hardware was better enough to even make any real world improvements with. Not unless they're going to give it better cooling than the PS5 and be willing to give it some real power. Cause as it is now, the PS5 isn't remotely close to delivering enough power to any hardware to make big performance gains.

I wonder which GPU they'll use?
The last was the equivalent of a 5700XT/6600XT - so this 'update' might be something like a 7700XT?"It's hard to be yourself in a world filled with haters" - WiseOldApe.

Yeah don’t get your hopes up.
PS5 cooling is ass and barely adequate to handle a wimpy system draw of 200 watts under load.
Even low end PREVIOUS gen GPU’s are pulling 170-200+ watts…which is all the PS5 can muster for its ENTIRE system.
You can stuff all the hardware in it you want…if you can’t feed it enough power to perform and keep it cool, it doesn’t matter.

No it doesn't lol.
How is it a slap in the face? You don't need the pro, it will offer a small performance boost, not a generational leap. Your PS5 hardware cost you much less than a PC equivalent would so it's not like you were robbed and you still get to play all the upcoming games for 8 years and it will look amazing. Took you 3 years to get your console, can't be mad at a 4-5 year refresh.
It already is let go, God of War Ragnarok was the last PS4 game.
Even worse for PC then because all you guys get are console ports. You sound jealous and mad as hell.
The people who can afford it and want a few more frames/resolution. It's a pro model not a PS6.
It's still just a rumor so I'm not getting my panties in a bunch yet. But if it's confirmed I'm gonna make sure I get one on launch this time.▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
