Thinking of getting something like this for the garage. Used to have a Powertec cage and various other things but looking to get a more compact unit for a decent full body workout. I am 49 and looking for something easy on the knees. Mainly just to stay in shape/maintain. No plans on competing or anything.

I've had the PT Lever gym for about 14 years. It still goes well. I recommend it for serious training. The Body Solid GLGS1000 is also worth considering.

This guy gives a pretty thorough review and offers hacks in four videos, plus a video comparing it to the Ironmaster IM 2000 and some workouts.

Guess that brings up another good point, my recommendation is also based on the corner leverage gyms, not the multi-station. I've had that one too and prefer the smaller leverage gym, much better when you can pair it with your own bench and in most situations I think a person over 6' could make it work.

I've never had the big multi-station, I just have the older model corner leverage gym. At one point or another though I've had the individual pieces that make up the big multi gym. The lever pulldown was an awesome piece, I don't even try doing pulldowns on my lever gym the ROM just sucks. I've also had the leverage squat machine and loved that too. I will do squats on my lever gym, but they're just not my favorite movement since I have to start at the bottom. I will say that the new model of the lever gym may have addressed those issues since the safety stop pin has been moved forward and appears to be reachable when doing squats now, for me it's just not doable on my older model. Since the bench on the new model also detaches you could also probably put in a lower bench to sit on and make it work. I'd love to upgrade my older model.

Yeah I had an older one as well, you can sorta make it work with other benches but it wasn't perfect for everything. I've been watching FB Marketplace, the moment I find another Body Solid that's priced right I'll probably swap out my York lat pulldown. Best of both worlds, get that low/high pulley and all the benefits of a leverage arm. Those seated shoulder presses were golden!

I put together what I feel is a pretty comprehensive guide on the Powertec here: https://graymatterlifting.wordpress....d-comparisons/
I used it for 5+ years in my gym and it got used basically every single workout. My personal motto is Better than Yesterday. This defines who I am, my view of the world, and my goals in life. Each day, I try to be a little better than I was the day before. A little smarter, a little stronger, a little happier.
