I’m spending 30 mins per day just driving to work. Another 30 mins back. So for the month of November alone, I’ve spent 22 motherfuking cawksucking hours just behind the wheel of my car going to and from a job I don’t want to be at. If I think about the fulfilling things I could’ve done during that time I get irrationally livid.
We’re getting robbed boyos.
Obviously getting compensated for your commute is something that will never happen and this thread is just me complaining because I’m in a bad mood this morning due to wage slavery, but corporate executives do get paid for theirs. It’s called a travel allowance.
Something to think about.

Fuk a commute SRS. I've only had a 10 min drive to every job from age 15-34 and wouldn't ever accept more. No idea how people drive an hour one way. I'd look for a fully WFH job before I ever even thought about driving 30+ min.

This is a real point. Also why I believe in a base wage based on the median rent for a 2 bedroom apartment. We get people working in the city who can't afford to live there on their salary and so have to commute in from the suburbs. And people working in city and suburbs who can't afford either and so are in an exurb or a more rural area.
If an employer requires an employee's physical presence on site to do a job then expecting the employer to pay a wage that will support living nearby OR otherwise to pay the employee's time and expense to commute in to the work site seems fair.
And, besides that, if you actually give a damn about pollution or resource depletion or community health then reducing the amount of energy and human lifespan spent moving from home to work and work to home would be much more helpful than penalizing people for trying to maintain a decent living standard [carbon tax, move to electric vehicles, etc.].INTP Crew

This is me. The only people who work for the city I work for (it’s a higher COL city than most nearby) who can afford to live here are the big wigs or made better money elsewhere/have land/home due to family who grew up here.
My commute is about 40 minutes each way. It was generally shorter when I lived in San Antonio but Fukk living in a big city and I’ll take back country roads over a highway where the weekly accident adds an hour to my commute.Sloots Gon Sloot.

negotiate a slightly higher salary to account for this.
i.e: I would be glad to accept this offer/opportunity but I was wondering if I could negotiate for a higher salary to take into account the commute times.

I walk two hours to work everyday, agreed. I should be paid for this time and paid the wear and tear on my shoes. As well as my body......
I also should be paid extra for the wear and tear on my body during work
I also should be paid extra for the mental fatigue during work
I also should be paid any lost sleep time from having my mind racing around about work
Finally I should be paid while I shower for work too, and double for my shower thoughts for work.

You literally just described 95% of people in the bay area of California. You have to make like $300k to afford a tiny studio in San Francisco where you won’t get stabbed walking out the door. So basically everyone moves across the bay and BARTs in if they make bank to live within 30 minutes, or live past BART and drive in or part way. I knew a guy that lived in Sacramento and drove 2 hours into SF because he made 400k for a job that was 100k in Sacramento.

My commute is paid (srs).
8 hrs paid from the moment I step out my door to the moment I roll in. Best part is that's a company vehicle so no wear and tear or gassing up my vehicle. Tradie crew for the win.-Virtue is its own reward
