Yesterday I was strapped on time, pulled up to the gym and didn't have time for anything but to get in and out. Trained in my work clothes, khakis and a banana republic button up.

I know I looked like a gym idiot, but ironically, yesterday's shortened session was what made me realize I was training too hard and too long to see any size gains.

Not blinded, the dangly sh*t that *PEOPLE* wear poses a safety concern that can lead to a biohazard situation. Same with rings and bracelets.
Ever see a finger get "sleeved" because someone forgot to take a ring off while dealing with equipment? Earings get ripped out from time to time due to cords etc getting tangled up.
It isn't pretty. I don't like blood soaked equipment.

There is a time and a place for jewelry, the gym is not it.

Ok, long dangly earrings are stupid in the gym - truth. But some of us wear non-obtrusive earrings & when you come from the office on your lunch, it's far too much of a pain to remove them & risk losing one.
Rings are a definite no-no, but earrings? They're staying in.

People who wear snapbacks in the gym and then wear them back to front! Or anyone who takes the gym as a fashion parade, I don't care what I wear, what brand as long as it fits okay and is loose, I'm there to sweat not a catwalk.

Football weight room was closed yesterday because we were preparing a fundraiser for the team.

So I, of course, decide to go to a nearby public gym.

It was lower body day, and I was doing my squat sets.

    245x8
    275x6
    295x5
    315x4
    335x4

I typically squat slightly below parallel, but on my last rep of 335x4 I realized that if I went down further, I was going to drop the weight. So, I do a 105 degree squat instead and rack the weight immediately.

This skinny 20-ish man runs up to me with an irritated look on his face and starts yelling, "That wasn't anywhere near low enough! Take a plate off of each side, that's too much weight!" I politely explain to him what happened and I was done, but he insisted on me dropping the weight and doing another set for him.

I walk to a different rack, and he follows me. I ended up having to ask a staff member to tell him to piss off.

I take my studs out but i use the standing calf machine for calves and for shrugs and they would catch the studs. I'd hate to catch the stud while doing a 300lb shrug but that's just me.

A lot of people think they squat lower than they actually do...you might not be going as low as you think. but that is pretty annoying that the guy raped you into doing another set for his amusement

What's wrong with wearing a ring? And what does sleeved mean? My ring is like part of my finger, it fits so well. I doubt it could ever get stuck.
(serious question btw, considering taking it off if you can give me a good reason to)

seriously, do you even need that big of gym bag for a 2 hour long work out?
Ever thought that people might do other things before or after their work out? I think you're overdoing this. You're not a gym idiot because of the size of your gym bag..

    1) Most people at my gym don't even put the weights back. I go to the dumbbell rack and there are weights missing all the time. I think people are stealing them.
    2) People that come with a whole group of training partners and stand around one machine, as one does the lifting, while the other 3 talk and socialize.
    3) Guys that take their shirt off and look in the mirror and even do workouts with their shirt off.
    4) People who are on their cellphone while occupying a machine not using it.

I don't do this, but I still don't understand why it's so unacceptable. Any legit reasons?

The way I see it, there are two reasons why people see it as unacceptable.

    1. The person taking their shirt off and admiring their abs are nowhere near being ripped/shredded/muscular.
    2. They're jealous.

I don't have an issue with people flexing/posing/checking themselves out in the mirror. Let's face it, what we see in the mirror makes up a huge reason why we're in the gym. If it works as a form of motivation for others, why hate on them for it? Unless they're blocking your view or something, there's no reason to be upset. Why do you care so much about what others do in the gym anyway?

Occasionally when the fan is broken in our weightroom, everyone takes off their shirt because it's so sweltering in there. This is including the people who are even less flattering than I am.

Maybe those taking off their shirt just get overheated easily.

Either way, unless it's directly affecting you, there's no rationale for your disdain towards this practice.

Sleeved (in this context): When a ring gets stuck on something and gets pulled to the knuckle, and instead of stopping at the bunched up skin, it continues on and proceeds to rip the skin off of your finger.

Even if it's a one in a million chance of it happening, why not just take the ring off and eliminate the possibility altogether? It's the same reason people have car, life and home insurance. Sometimes **** happens, so better to be safe than sorry.

Yep, that's pretty idiotic! There are so many alternatives instead of tying up the squat rack - the curl bar, the fixed barbells or even 2 arm dumbell curls. Made me laugh.
Cut done with - basically unsuccessful first bulk as I did put on a lot of fat to go with the little muscle I added. I know what I did wrong first time round and won't be repeating it. Looking forwards to being able to eat a few hundred more calories!! At least I know I can cut fat efficiently: went from 143lbs to 120lbs and from 35in to 29in waist.

*I* take my rings off primarily because knurled bars will destroy the rings! The safety thing is secondary
I've never felt even remotely unsafe because of my small earrings, so I leave them in. *shrug*

Some guy asked me how many sets I have left and I said one. And after my last set I reracked the weights and all so he could use it. And he was like "you didn't have to do that. thanks". First time I heard someone who didn't expect me to rerack the weights.
