I have always been against abortion but understand why its a necessary evil.

If you care about abortion or having control over your own reproductive system, you will make this a significant voting issue. While I agree that there is a compromise on abortion (probably Lindsey Graham's 15 week ban would be a fair compromise), the Democrats are only going to get more extreme on the issue because they have no negotiating power now. Why would you give into a 15 week ban when you aren't getting any rights to protect you for the first 15 weeks, or for rape or incest? If you only care somewhat about abortion that move could get you motivated to get to the polls.

The Republicans are proposing federal bans on abortions while taking away every single federal protection on abortion - and the majority of voters support federal abortion protections. How do you expect to win an election when your party is purposefully and publicly going against the will of the people?
