We need social safety nets. But we need to be more selective about who gets them. I believe that no young adult who is physically able and is not heavily mentally disabled should get welfare. I know of many grown men who refuse to keep a steady job because in some way or another, they're getting money from the government.

In some other countries they pay people to have kids. I recall Germany and other places doing that.

In the US the idea is that the rich do not work and the poor cannot work, so the middle class does everything.

In the Catholic Church, one reason that priests couldn't have kids was because if they had a family they would focus on that and not the community they were supposed to serve. Just the same, the rich who do not have to work don't want middle class men and women having families.

That's why women were encouraged to be like men and not have kids for their "career". It got both male and female middle class working and so the workforce was doubled.

If middle class have large families it will affect their ability to work.

One control mechanism that's used on the middle class is the idea that they can advance. So, we will have two adults working like crazy to advance and either have no kids or one and they will spend all of their money trying to advance which means they will have no actual money to start a business which is the only way to advance.

Those aren't just my opinions but things I've learned about the subject over the years.

Learn to read and think.

Helping people to live in a stable manner doesn't encourage people to have children. Rather, you cannot stupid people from having children as stupid people, based on evidence, do not respond to incentives.

Education, careers, vacations, material goods, fine foods, fine clothes, etc are all the incentives we have to give AND YET stupid people and mentally ill people do not care about any of the incentives we have to give. So, the need to be pacified.

Yeah, I make almost $200k a year and have a wife that makes $100k+ a year, work less than 30 hours a week, have multiple houses and rental income, and I'm only in my early 30s and less than 8 years into my career. A family I'm working with now has an out of control four year old, the mom is on disability because she is fat, has knee problems, has "fibromyalgia" (fake diagnosis), and gets SSI for all of that. She cannot deal with her four year old but is pregnant again. There's at least three or four other kids there.

They have several dogs and cats.

There's a man in the house and he looks extremely happy. I think he does some work but the mother is carrying the load from benefits.

I am a therapist for the family and I work for the government so that is free.

She does not follow any of my therapy recommendations because she just doesn't want to lol. That's okay with me because I know these folks are just gliding through life and aren't about to learn Behaviorism from me lol.

You're right, until even a minor inconvenience pops up, and then they're asking anyone and everyone to borrow money. I know these same kinds of people, and whenever I go into one of their homes I feel uncomfortable because of how run down the places are. I guess if someone doesn't know better then they'd appear to be happy, but I know better because I grew up very poor. It probably has to do with diminished intellectual capacity as well, dumb people always seem the happiest, despite their situation.
