If you're looking for plates, never buy steel. You will die. Hesco pretty much makes the best plates you can buy.
Chest rigs and plate carriers are two pretty different approaches, so depends what you're interested in. Some people like to run slick plate carriers (slick as in nothing attached to it) and then wear a chest rig over it, sort of like a hybrid between the two.
I personally only run a chest rig. Based on my location and game plan, I value maneuverability over protection. If I had a group of dudes that I trained regularly with I'd get a plate carrier. I don't really like the idea of a slick PC and chest rig, I'd rather have two dedicated platforms. I don't have a helmet but I consider that tied to a plate carrier. If I'm rocking plates, I'm definitely rocking a ballistic helmet.
There are a lot of really good companies out there and most will probably serve you well. I'm personally a big fan of Spiritus Systems and my entire chest rig set up is SS. They make plate carriers as well. They're most known for their modularity and that really allows the user to dial in their kit to them. You purchase every component separately to get what you want. SS was founded by 10th Mountain infantry dudes after they started customizing kit for themselves in Afghanistan and really blew up from there. Ferro Concepts is another good company.
Here's my chest rig, all SS components except the three front magazine inserts which are Esstac kywis.

You just described nearly every striker fired or DAO semi auto on the market. Load it, put it in a holster, ready to go.
Telling a gun noob, or anyone for that matter, to cock their revolver into single action for self defense is full retard.
Don't do that
I would love to see the stats that show an ND is more likely than a defensive gun use. By all means, make with the stat.
PS: If ND's are what you're worried about, suggesting cocking a revolver into single action is fukking retarded with a capital RLast edited by Farley1324; 02-15-2023 at 01:52 PM.

For a casual gun owner male or female, a revolver is sometimes the best choice because of its simplistic manual of arms, inherently safe design and not having to worry about having "one in the chamber". It is pretty much impossible to forget how a revolver works even after years of neglect. It is pretty much impossible to have an ND because "you thought it was unloaded" or to think you had it loaded only to find it won't go bang when you need it because you forgot to chamber a round. I know several people that find revolvers less stressful than automatics.
Also in my experience, casual gun owner is not likely to buy a large quantity of their SD ammo to run through the gun for reliability testing. This is not an issue for a wheelgun. A revolver can handle any bullet shape, and for the physically weak, you don't have to worry about lighter loads failing to cycle the action/limp wristing. You also don't have to worry about dexterity of racking the slide.
I never said anything about a 1911, that in itself tells me everything I need to know about your reading comprehension. Which also tells me about your firearm comprehension. Furthermore, I don't understand your comment on cocking a revolver. You know that that's how they were designed right?

I think you're the only one who didn't put together that I was referring to the guy who recommended a 1911 when I was referring to recommending a 1911.
Some of those things are true of a revolver, but saying you get over the long heavy physically difficult trigger pull by having the untrained female noob who can't remember how to work a gun cock it into single action for self tells me everything I need to know.

big, scary .45 manstopper crew
i had a girlfriend back in the day that liked guns but didnt know much about them. she really liked my glock 20 though. one time when i was in the shower she picked it up and cycled the action multiple times, chambering and ejecting live rounds. didnt even occur to her that she had chambered live rounds.
but on the subject of revolver vs semi auto, i would not recommend a revolver over a semi auto for self defense for the reason that revolvers have a very heavy trigger pull, limited magazine capacity and are very slow to reload. gas escaping between the cylinder and the barrel can also cause injury. a reliable semi auto 9mm is always going to be more tactically capable than a revolver. you cant go wrong with a glock 19 or 17, but there are lots of other options that are just as good. keep it full mag, round in the chamber and in a holster at all times. make sure the girl isnt a dumb bimbo like my ex also...Last edited by 4ea; 02-15-2023 at 06:31 PM.

Story time.
Last summer, I spent about a week at my mom and dad’s doing some work on their condo. One evening I sat down in a recliner and was looking for the TV remote. I reached into the side pocket and grabbed ahold of a Smith and Wesson J-frame. I looked over at my dad, and he said, “That’s your mom’s.”

Last fall, my old boney fingered mom (she was 81 at the time) went handgun shooting with Dad and me. Her little .38 spl J-frame Smith doesn’t have a hammer, and while she put all of her shots on the paper at 5 yards, the bulk of her shots were low and left. That told me she was really jerking that trigger.

Good morning Gentleman.
Checked out Gillette yesterday to do an interview for a drivetrain position within my company to transfer to. Hopefully I'll hear back soon. Gillette has 3 outdoor ranges and a good amount of stores to shop at for firearms. It would be nice to start doing some outdoor shooting for long range. I still need to try out that .22LR conversion in my AR too.Misc Firearms Crew
