10.5 month progress after 6 years off gym (82 LBS lost)

Hey all, figured I’d share. Started training in 2008-2009, reached a pretty solid physique by 2015. (184 lbs 8-9%BF @ 5’10”) (My display pic) Got married in 2015 and it was downhill from there. Had three jobs and gym was no longer a priority for me, and it showed. I also became a heavy smoker.

By October 2021 I had reached a staggering 278 lbs (5’10”) and I was truly disgusted in myself. Things had to change… started with just body weight exercises , and exercise bike. And making sure I was in a calorie deficit. By the new year I was back into gym finally .. my lifts were going up and up every single workout. Now 82 lbs lost I am SO close to my 2015 physique… but I don’t think this would have been possible if I hadn’t tracked my cals/macros to a T and also working from home… no outside stress on my body besides gym, I slept 10hr each night as well. Not to mention I have already lost more than 70 lbs once in my life, and I’ve lost more than 30 lbs on 4-5 different occasions during bulk/cut phases. So I know my body pretty well… bad news is I still smoke occasionally maybe 1 pack a week.. honestly I think it helped with food cravings tremendously while cutting. But yes I do need to quit that habit.. I find myself panting for life after a 1RM attempt.

I’m going to try to lose 12-13 more lbs to reach 9% BF and work on cutting my smoking habit completely.

TLDR: had a good physique in 2015 after 5-6 years training. Took 6 years off gym and lost it all. On my way to redemption. muscle memory is real. October 2021 (278 lbs unknown BF%) >>>>> august 2022 (196LBs 14% BF)

Wow. Even at 278, you still looked like only 230.
