I'm making the argument to close it, but I don't really care. I don't think opening it is going to bring a discernable amount of quality traffic. So closed or open doesn't change much. What might help is an updated and mobile friendly forum, which I'm hoping we get.

IDK, man. I used to post on LS1TECH, and they required a 6 month wait before you could post in the 'for sale' section of their board. There was still tons of traffic on that board. BB.com could do the same. They could allow new members to join and post in other sections of the forum, but restrict their ability to post in the Misc for a set period of time.

Boring and stagnant is more like it. I would check the misc on my phone in the morning before work, then get off of work 10 hours later and see the same damn threads on the front page. Not because they're active, but because noone is posting.

You are right that the misc will never have as much traffic as reddit, but halting new people from joining certainly isn't going to "fix" the problem. You're just creating a self-fullfilling prophesy.
