I did a 36 hour fast last month. For the better part of the last two months I've been fasting 16 - 20+ hours. I use a cellphone app to keep track. Logged 377 "fasted hours" in June.
I would do this just on instinct as a kid, just eat one meal a day for a week or two. Only started using an app and being self-aware of it a few years ago. I don't go year-round, I fall in and out of the habit. But it does make you feel sharper / healthier, helps lose weight, keeps you mindful of your diet.

Growing up I'd forget to eat and go long periods without. Even now I skip breakfast most days and if I get busy, won't have lunch either.
We're you a skinny kid? I think it's a common thing for kids that grew up skinny. Sure we love food too, just want the most pressing thing I'd we had things we wanted to do.***The Misadventires of Gandalf the Black***

Anyone else get inspired by this thread to start a longer term fast?
I’m coming up on 24 hours now. Definitely don’t feel great. Mild headache, stomach is rumbling like I have to chit but I don’t. Odd sensation. Overall though I’m less hungry than I was this morning. Been sipping on green tea plus 8 fl oz water minimum per hour.

I have to be honest. I am skeptical that these longer term fasts are actually as healthy as claimed. I understand the science behind it, but I put in a 30 hour fast and feel pretty chit coming out of it. Was shooting for 48 hours, felt the need to eat. My body was sore as if I had the flu. Now after refeeding I have zero energy despite getting 8 hours of sleep and hydrating properly with sodium. My headache is still lingering. At the gym my cardio has been hurt even more so than my strength.
Not sure if I’d it do again. Might stick to IF.

Do you eat a lot of carbs every day? I never felt like I had the flu on my 5 day fasts. I don't eat keto but do eat lower carbs on a normal basis. I've seen a lot of people recommend low carb prior to a fast. Also, if you were drinking a lot of liquids and on the 2nd day or after weren't taking salt/potassium you could have thrown off your electrolytes. I typically do OMAD so after the first 24 hours I start taking salt/potassium a couple times a day.

Yeah I don’t watch my carbs at all on a typical day. Actually ate a medium pizza the day before jumping right into fasting. That could’ve been my fuk up.
That all makes sense. I’ve been doing 16:8 intermittent fasting 5 days per week for a few weeks now with little issue. I guess diving straight to a >24hr fast shocked my body. Gonna regroup and do my homework before trying again maybe next month.

Came across this video last year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPL8QSng2sY
(Link to their paper: https://api.semanticscholar.org/CorpusID:57783427 - Safety, health improvement and well-being during a 4 to 21-day fasting period in an observational study including 1422 subjects)
The Buchinger Clinic has a lot of information on everything related to fasting; https://www.youtube.com/c/BuchingerWilhelmiFasting
That made me go through multiple scientific papers on fasting and the different benefits that has been shown with fasting.
Huberman's video has already been posted. Dr. David Sinclair has written a book that also has a lot on fasting for longevity in addition to having a podcast on this (Lifespan is the podcast called), he was also on Hubermans podcast.
Also this video (https://youtu.be/RuOvn4UqznU) by Dr Pradip Jamnadas (Cardiologist) is really interesting. He made a followup to this one recently.
