In heart I’m a bodybuilder (mens physique; if you don’t count that division as BB then put me down as fitness physique competitor whatever)
However right now I’m busting my ass trying to break a state record on the bench press so recently I’ve been training as a powerlifter.
Years back I was doing amateur boxing so I was training like an athlete.
Overall, I do this for fun. I genuinely enjoy challenging myself and reaching new heights. Wanted to specify since I voted bodybuilding but my answer is more layered"Quiet boy! Where is your honor?.. Like all pure blooded Saiyans, Kakarot would rather die fighting than win with one of those disgraceful senzu beans as his crutch. Kakarot trained in the hyperbolic time chamber just as we did; now let's see what he can do."

I've been training for 34 years...back in the 80's, I would say my journey started out a little for vanity & size, then it became a healthy lifestyle and now it's so I can still move tomorrow. LOL!

I feel that joint pain. If I miss more than a week my knees and hips really start to feel it.
Powerlifting in the 75-80% range is a great way to keep going for a long time. I attribute my ability to improve into my 40's to just knowing when to back off and when to hit the gas. I can get by doing a heavy bench and a heavy squat once a week and dialing back most of the assistance work.
Wow, I wouldn't have guessed. That's awesome!
What's the record and how close are you? Are you working with a coach/trainer?I'm not DrewDarden

I consider myself a 'body builder' because that's effectively what I do in my gym - build my body. While I derive a lot of enjoyment and fulfillment from it, I'd say it goes above and beyond simply doing it because I find it fun. It's been a complete 180 in terms of lifestyle and I can't imagine living any other way. The lessons gleaned from bodybuilding are so applicable to other avenues of life. Short term pain, long term gain, delayed gratification, hard work, dedication, consistency, tenacity, perseverance, knowledge building, the list goes on and on.
*Look at reflection in car window and flex every time crew*
*Use half the roll to wipe after a poo crew*
*Fart in the gym and blame rotten smell on faulty ventilation crew*
*Fart at home and blame it on the dog crew*
*Watch neutron-star density poop mock me as water flushes around it and it stays put crew*
*Drive 2 minutes in the summer and back of shirt gets completely wet crew*
*Coffee black as midnight on a moonless night crew*
*Fat shame my cat on a daily basis crew*

The gif is a straddle planche, guy is kinda too high and not really horizontal although that is better than what I can currently do.....which is just advance tuck and working on straddle.
Second is a solid front lever. That guy is a beast. He can back flip into a straddle planche and go full planche.
Those are my goals and what I workout to do. Everything is centered around getting it.

Yes. I have bad arthritis, especially in my knees, hips, back, and shoulders, and I like to stay competitive in other sports. Strengthening my muscles around the joints helps A LOT with to control the arthritis pain. It's one of the hazards of being 50. I don't do ORMs or that kind of thing with really crazy weights that really stresses joints with powerlifting. I do weights that I can control, mostly for sets of 5.

I used to do nothing but heavy compounds now I do stuff like barbell complexes along with high intensity cardio. I'm getting old so I care more about my health than maximum gains these days

guess I should say I lift for fun with bodybuilder type goals/routine, always hate to claim to be a “bodybuilder” since I don’t do it that seriously and live the whole lifestyle, do strict diet, etc, if I had unlimited time and money i would tho. consider myself a gym rat since i love going there every chance I get but don’t have time to spend many hours everyday at gym, meal prep, etc but I do what I can and go do some kind of workout almost everyday and focus on getting/maintaining halfway decent natty physique and health vs just powerlifting for strength, if that makes sense

Voted for sport. Lifted back in high school and stopped for several years. Mainly for sports. Flash forward another 10 years and got back into lifting with spin-lock dumbbells at home. Did a bunch of dumbbell cardio vids that were on demand in the years before everyone was an online fitness coach. Then started playing some adult league club sports and got back into lifting again a little more seriously and got an olympic set at home. Stopped playing sports but continued to lift this time. I don't plan on stopping but focus has changed again. Doing more kettlebell/kettlebell cardio stuff with some barbell lifts peppered in. This time I don't see myself stopping any time soon, I'm not terribly lean and need to stay active to sweat out weekend beer consumption.

kinda of a hybrid athlete. care more about my 1rm bench and squat than most athletes would, but outside of those lifts the primarily focus is on development of speed and power. want to be able to run fast and jump high as i age (BRB lmao at aging at 28) and i dont think ive touched a machine and done a non free weight exercise besides cable work in two years now
