In war, women and children always die. If you start a war with someone, you are making the decision that the sacrifice is worth it. Japan was siding with the Nazis and in retaliation against them was in the form of cutting off supplies to them. they bombed Pearl Harbor as a result of that.

I am not up to speed on foreign relations with Taiwan. But why would we care if China took over Taiwan? Are there exports and industries or strategic military implications there we rely on or is it simply because we shouldn't let China bully them around and if we let them it sets a precedent?

Does someone have cliffs to help shed light on this situation?
