This is several years old now, but when in doubt, I refer to doc roberts
"A) If barrier penetration is NOT an important factor AND your rifle can stabilize them (minimum 1:9 twist rate):
-Hornady 75gr OTM loads
-Nosler 77gr OTM loads
-Sierra 77gr SMK loads
B) If barrier penetration is NOT an important factor AND your rifle can't stabilize the heavy 70+ grain bullets:
-Sierra 69gr SMK loads
-Hornady 68gr OTM loads
-Winchester 64gr JSP (RA223R2)
-Federal 64gr TRU (223L)
-Hornady 60gr JSP
C) If your rifle is 1:12 or slower twist rate or can only shoot lighter-weight bullets:
-55gr Federal bonded JSP load (LE223T1 or P223T2)
-Barnes 55gr TSX/TAC-X
-50gr TSX loaded by Black Hills
D) If barrier penetration IS an important factor:
-62gr Federal Trophy Bonded Bear Claw (TBBC) bonded JSP (XM556FBIT3)
-64gr Winchester solid base bonded JSP (Q3313/RA556B)
-50gr TSX loaded by Black Hills
-Speer 55 & 64gr Gold Dot JSP (5.56)
-Federal 62gr Mk318 Mod0 (T556TNB1)
-62gr Federal bonded JSP Tactical (LE223T3)
-55gr Federal bonded JSP load (Tactical––LE223T1 or identical Premium Rifle––P223T2)
-Swift 75gr Scirocco (usually requires 1:7 twist)
-60gr Nosler Partition JSP
-Remington 62gr bonded JSP
-Federal 55gr TSX (T223S)
-Speer 55 & 64gr Gold Dot JSP (.223)
-Federal 62gr Fusion JSP (Same construction as the Gold Dot)"
I have the mk318 SOSt, Federal tactical bonded LE223T1, Fusion MSR 223 62gr, and plenty of 77gr OTM mostly the IMI.
Right now I have mk318 on deck. Might switch back to the Fusion. Haven't broken into the LE223T1 yet. Something in the back of my brain makes me want to stick with 5.56 pressure on non-suppressed rifles
I don't think it much matters, it's a centerfire rifle, and anything from this list is sure to be significantly more consistent than 193/855, which even that I wouldn't really be concerned with relying on because of that whole rifle thing

^ all of that is really good information for a guy to have available to him. Like Ike said earlier, the beauty of the AR platform is the number of different rounds available for it.
Given how my house is laid out, where kids may or may not be sleeping, if it’s necessary to clear the house or not, and a few other things I’ve considered, I feel like I need a home defense round that is relatively barrier blind.

My attic trap door is between two bedrooms at end of hallway, with stairs to lower floor at the other end. So I sleep in the attic (semi-finished) with the trapdoor closed. If I hear a commotion, I prop the trapdoor open a few inches, enough to see out with red dot on AR (77gr smk) while prone. Anyone coming from front door, side door, basement (opens to outside), kitchen, or dining room is in the kill zone. Need to get some 3/4" steel to lay on and reinforce trap door.
Not really but that's my plan if world descends into lawlessness. Normal times, sleep with AR in reach. Get behind cover and call police. Not clearing sh!t.☆ MissChill Appreciation Crew ☆ Owner ☆ Σ ☆

Main shooter, passenger seat SUV, sure looks like a round bodied smaller red dot, like an Aimpoint or a Holosun

All our bedrooms are upstairs. All of the bottom floor doors/windows have sensors and 0-second trip delay on our "home" alarm mode. Cujo sleeps downstairs.
Alarm ever goes off, I'm just waiting at the top with a rifle to stop anyone from making it past the first stair. I'm assuming the dog will finish them long before the cops get here if I don't come down. No need to clear anything.480s / 370b / 495d / 235 x 2 SOHP

[QUOTE=Bo_Flecks;1652429013
Given that the 62gr Fusion is the civilian marketed version of the FBI 62gr Bear Claw (they’ve been using for years to drop shytbags like it’s going out of style), and is readily available to civilians, I’ve chosen it due to the success it’s had in the real world.
I think the only discernible difference between the Fusion and the Bear Claw is that the Fusion is a boat tail, and the Bear Claw has a flat base.[/QUOTE]
Is it? I have the Fusion but didn't recall that being the case.
I just started digging again, and
https://www.snipershide.com/shooting...rence.7055461/
Says the Federal LE223 T3 62gr is different from Fusion and the T3 is the .223 pressure load with the TBBC bullet
BTW, that T3 sht is available but it's over $2/round. SGA and TS-USA both have it. Meanwhile 55gr Gold Dots at TS with Prime are like $1/each

Most of the reading that I’ve done on the 62gr bonded soft point has been on the bullet and bullet performance itself. I don’t have access to anything with an LE designation, so I don’t spend too much time learning about things I don’t have available to me.
Andrew Betts made a pretty good video a few years ago discussing home defense bullets for the AR platform. It’s an interesting watch.

Sometimes I just get lucky, inmate rolls up at 1830ish and drops a lot of info on hidden weapons and how there is going to be a stabbing soon; no program from there until 2200 end of that shift so I sat in observation counting ceiling tiles for a solid 3 hours. Next week likely a stabbing but hopefully not on Sunday when I'm there again, weekends are usually quiet.

Doing pat downs on yard release, this guy comes out and my partner to my left starts patting him down, no big deal. Suddenly *bzzzzz* and the guy flinches, my partner looks at him "You OK guy?, something wrong", inmate says "Nope"
*Bzzzzzzz* And he flinches again.... turns out he hid a phone up his ass and forgot it was on vibrate, and someone was calling; never laughed so hard.
As for the most impressive, we got one guy in visiting with 3 bindles in his ass, each full of heroin and the size of a 12oz soda can; forgot the full weight but it was over 100kl in drugs he got snatched with. We were impressed not only at the amount, but he managed to do the squat and cough without them falling out, we only got him since they noticed him acting weird with his visitor and got the swap on camera.Short cuts to success are often paved with lies.
