    Countersteering on a motorcycle

I heard about countersteering long before I considered getting a motorcycle but now that I want to get one soon I want to understand this more.

Some seem to say you don't even need to think about it, while others seem to say if you're riding at 24.9km/h you need to turn right to turn right and left to turn left, but at 25.0km/h you suddenly need to turn left to turn right and right to turn left.

This sounds a bit nerve-wracking, what if I suddenly need to turn, do I really need to check my speed and see whether and above or below 25 to know which way I need to turn to turn a specific direction?

You are overthinking this. Don’t worry about it.

Just go take an MSF course.

Push left, go left. Push right, go right. It’s pretty simple.

If you initiate a turn from a stop, you’ll actually feel the handlebars lock up and that’s when you transition to counter steering.

So from a stop I start by turning the handlebars in the direction I want to go, then as I accelerate and the handlebars lock up, push in the direction I want to go. It’s a strange concept but it becomes second nature.

At high speeds, you will only ever push and lean in the direction you want to go.

You only turn the handlebars at literally idling speeds. With any amount of acceleration/throttle, counter steering will be the only viable option. You’ll understand once you ride.

    Your wheels are gyroscopes.

Don't think of it as turning left to go right and vice versa.

Pushing on the right handlebar leans the bike to the right, for a right turn.

I've been riding a motorcycle as my main mode of transportation since 2015, and I have never once thought about counter steering. I just ride the thing lol. Like the dude said, if you can ride a bicycle just got take your MSF course and once you get your brand new R1 as your first bike just keep it to neighborhoods or back roads for a couple rides and get the feel for it.

Also, don't get an R1 for your first bike lol.
