I was all aboard the hate on Biles train, but now that she withdrew from at least the first individual competition I've pretty much forgiven her. It would have been a HUGE dick move to withdraw from the team comp then go win gold in all the individual comps lmao. There's probably more to the story than just "mental health". Like she must be having massive panic attacks and be unable to sleep or something. We should wait until there's more info to finally judge her.
That being said I think Nike should change it's slogan.
Nike. Just quit.

Not sure if low effort trolling or actually this stupid
She owes her parents, her coaches, her nation and every tax payer something for the decades of time, money and effort spent getting her there
Most of all she owes the person whose position she took the most
Women in competitive sports was a mistake, they simply aren’t cutout for the rigours of extreme competition
We’ve seen the same bullchit from Australian female olympians complaining it’s too hardPlant the trees in whose shade your grandchildren will play

Look at all the bullsh*tting back and forth in this thread because they are just not honest with us...the vaccine totally fukked her equilibrium and timing.
This is her new normal, her days of competing are over. They cannot tell the truth about it. She is a 24 year old veteran of the sport who had been competing heavily her whole life, this "pressure" is nothing new to her. She can do her routines with her eyes closed.
She has been tripping and stumbling all over the place...the vax got her boyos.

This. Mental health is mental health and completely understandable. People do break from all the pressure. Looks at the Britneys and all the other celebrities that were put under heavy pressure at a young age. At the same time, many athletes are using their platform to make a statement. Is this the case? Who knows. Only she knows. Best of luck to her and I hope that her replacement knocks it out of the ballpark.

****ing lol @ quitting because of "mental health". Absolutely pathetic.
Here in Australia we had a player in the NRL grand final (rugby league), Sam Burgess, break his face in the first minute. Fractured eye socket in 3 different places and a broken jaw and cheekbone. Team doctor even said to him at half time that he could lose his eye sight if he kept playing the rest of the game. He kept playing because he didn't want to let his teammates down and they won the game.
That's heroic, courageous and brave. Quitting on your teammates & country because you have anxiety about under performing is not.

I remember just visiting some indoor skatepark and I stood at the top of what was probably the tallest half-pipe there is, and holy fukking sh!t.....
I could never imagine dropping down into one of those things. But then again I’m not a professional. Where as Tony Hawk and Simone Biles are.
Watch the whole vid but especially at 1:33. That drop scares the sh!t out of me when I saw it in real life.
Look how many times Tony Hawk had such brutally painful landings and see the blank look on his face afterwards. When he finally nailed it age AGE 48 he threw his helmet and pads off immediately like “I am never ever doing this sh!t fukking again.” LOL.
So maybe on some level I can empathize with Simone. Idk. Maybe those jitters on the world stage really got to her this time around. She seems like a nice girl. Can’t imagine being that young and dealing with that kinda pressure.Last edited by andrew28; 07-28-2021 at 03:13 AM.

They will continue to report this as "mental" until she finally gets tired of being portrayed as "weak" or a "quitter" and she will finally speak up about how the vax totally fukked her up. She will become a spokesperson for the unvaxxed before ultimately being silenced. Or, maybe I have a mental illness. Either way.

and then quitting at the moment all that work/time/money was put in for
not just her work/time/money but her parent’, trainers, sponsors, ect
shes not in a unique situation. how many countless athletes have been in her exact shoes and persevered? way more than those that quit in the final moment they worked for. The pressure is immense and i can sympathize with that but if i was around her i would have drilled into her head how much worse the pressure and weight of public opinion on her will be by quitting rather than giving it your all and failingCertified 1200 ng/l T

This. While I can understand the pressure she's going through and how trying it is/can be, I don't see how her pulling out is the correct answer. She's in the time of social media now, which is probably part of the reason she feels so much pressure, eyes always on her, biggest stage, millions of critics at her fingertips/around every corner, etc. If she thinks stepping away and taking a break actually means taking a break and she's going to be able to avoid all of the things causing the stress and pressure to begin with, she's sorely mistaken.
If she competed, even at a lesser level to ensure she doesn't do something stupid and injure herself (i.e. I understand some of the things she does takes enormous concentration and focus, and can seriously injure herself if she's not 100% committed), and ended up failing, it is what it is. Literally every elite athlete has failed. It's not a matter of if, but when. Tons on the biggest stage of their careers too. She's already been there done that, so we all know she CAN. Nothing wrong with not being at your best 100% of the time.
But she chose to completely step away, instead of giving less than 100%. While maybe admirable in a completely individual sport, that's not remotely admirable here. She gave up on her teammates, forced Jordan Chiles to do an uneven bars routine with a literally 30-second warmup in her stead (dangerous in itself injury wise with very little actual preparation, and she still stepped the fuk up and nailed the routine I might add), and took the place of alternates who are sitting at home watching from the couch who would kill their next of kin to have a spot on the team.
Her stepping away isn't about her. It's about everyone else around her affected by her actions. If she thought the stress and pressure was too much to bear before, she's in for a rude awakening. Competing and failing, even at a lesser level than what she's used to, would have stung but wouldn't have meant too much in the grand scheme of things. This decision, however, will remain with her for much longer.Last edited by xxAchillesxx; 07-28-2021 at 04:46 AM.

I don't see anyone in the American media calling it shameful.
They're spinning it into some kind of display of strength and promoting mental health.
All this does is reinforce our soft azz generation and now whenever the going gets tough people will blame mental healthManlet Master Race

The ultimate thing is, the way russia performed they would have won gold if she went out and even did sloppy versions of her moves because of the degree of difficulty. Just lol.
I'm honestly embarrassed that this is being celebrated.
