The weight limit is 500? That is without the lever bar? I had about 400 on it, but couldn't fit on any more weight. 3 45s, and then a couple of 35s on each side. I couldn't fit an additional 25. So how do you get the full 500 on it? What could happen if you exceeded the limit? I wonder why they didn't make it longer. Are there ways to make the horns longer? The only other option I could think of would be if I had the 90 lb plates.

If you're using any bumpers then they're too thick. You mention adding 35s, you need to bump them to 45s or more -- there are 55+ lbs plates. There are also ways to use chains to hang more weight. If you exceed the stated limits then you should expect failure.

These might be able to do it, I'd email and ask if you can't tell

Don't exceed the stated limit, but you could pick up some of these plates, which are the thinnest I've seen at 3/4" for 45 lb:

Thanks. Maybe chains are the best option for me. I only need a small amount of weight to add. But my questions are this. Do you mean use the chains as weights or use the chain to hang weights? And if the chain was lets say 45 pounds, then how much would it be if I lifted part of the chain off the floor but the other part remains on the ground?
I'm also looking into plate extensions, but who knows if that will work. And 55 pounds might be an option, but would only add 10 extra pounds on each side.
