Excellent screen but for the love Allah get a 65" one. Save up for it if need be. 40"s qualifies to be a monitor these days.

if its for gaming, 48" could be enough depending on his sitting distance.. even on console gaming some folks use desks to play.

and for OP, if you are desktop gaming, i'd probably wait it out if you can, cause big rumors are smaller oled's are coming from LG. Personally waiting for a 42 or a 38 incher for permanent desktop use. if you are using it for couch gaming, just get the 55" they are practically the same price.

no, oled's aren't as bright. it isn't a big issue unless you got some big ol' windows facing the TV and you be opening the curtains to let all the sun in. its still HIGHLY reflective and would not recommend for a family room TV cause you will see the light bulbs from the kitchen or from the room itself displayed on the TV.

samsung's QLED's (quantum dot) are crazy bright for those family room TVs during the day and not as reflective so it is superior in that aspect. but its still not oled.

example of high reflections (very annoying tbh)

top tv is LG's oled, bottom is samsung's qled

would anger me. but i want to use my future oled for dark gaming.

very wrong about the brightness. Peak brightness in LCD's is much higher. I still think OLEDs are better due to perfect black (so super high contrast, which is probably why you though brightness was higher), and great response time for gaming.

CX crew checking it. TV is amazing. Dolbyvision HDR is incredible on the display.

Zero issues with glare or lack of brightness. Plenty bright.

so did you do it? I have a 65'' B8 but will eventually upgrade to a 83'', whenever they have that with the new screen that's in the G1.

also really want that hdmi 2.1.

really crazy how fast price on oled tech has dropped every year. 48'' is perfect size for a monitor. Do it. I'm a consolecel and sit a 6-7 feet away so I gotta go bigger.

really crazy how fast price on oled tech has dropped every year. 48'' is perfect size for a monitor. Do it. I'm a consolecel and sit a 6-7 feet away so I gotta go bigger.

oled really is a great tv.
Nah idk if i want a huge one or a 48 for my monitor. The prices are dropping on these too. They might be around 1k by the end of the year.

What is the difference between LED and "o"LED

does the O make that much of a difference?

What about plasma? Is LCD a type of plasma?

What are the pros and cons of LCD vs LED vs OLED vs QLED vs Plasma

Are they back in stock? I looked awhile back and you couldn't get one. This is probably my next computer monitor.

Yes. Its insanely different. Completely different way of building a TV. The O stands for organic. They have been out for a long time now, but its my understanding that the panels are still fairly hard to manufacture at bulk with a lot of failures in the factory that never make it past quality control which raise the cost.

The main difference is that Standard LEDs have a hard time doing the darker colors. Blacks look very dark grey at best. Now many companies have found other ways of improving the standard LED. By far the best way is the OLED. Which has the darkest black levels. Just go to Best Buy and compare one to the TV next to it. Its less obvious than it used to be when they first came out (others have been trying to catch up with other systems like QLED) but its still noticeable.

    As for other questions:

Not plasma. LED = Light emitting Diode. LEDs of one form or another make up 95% of displays made today.

As for differences between the different ones.

    LCD = old tech.

LED = newer tech and pretty much most TVs and monitors and cell phones made today. Strength is that they are overall great. Weakness is that standard form has a problem with darker colors (blacks specifically).

OLED = even newer tech that allows much darker colors. Main weakness is similar to plasma they have a reputation for burn in problems. Supposedly the newer versions of them aren't nearly as bad at this, but the problem still exists.

QLED = Samsung's version of improved LED with darker colors. Different technology than OLED and isn't as good, but doesn't have burn in problems.

Plasma = They don't make it anymore to my knowledge so any you find are old. The screens were great, but they used a ton of electricity and put off a ton of heat. Plus they weren't as thin as current LEDs. They also had major burn in problems.

Just ordered a 38" ultrawide for main monitor and also gonna get a 48" cx for games/other stuff not right for 21/9.

From everything I've read seems super worth it, don't imagine I will prefer it over an ultrawide for general use though.

whats crazy is with the LG 48" oled you can customize your resolution and make your own "ultra-wide" style since the screen real estate is so big. With its perfect blacks from oled (turned off pixels) you won't have any annoying LCD fake black bothering you.

i am just waiting for a LG 42"/38"/36" style oled to make the jump from my 34" ultrawide. I would jump on the 48" but its a little too large for my desk depth and Its not something I am willing to purchase a new desk for because this is an electronic standing/sitting desk.

    LG is hitting out with a 32" 32EP950, but it's $4k USD for a 32" monitor

These smaller screens are all gonna be expensive af for a bit

yea i know, but that one is made for the professional video editors and chit. its 60hz panel but with great color profile coverages.

I want to see what the LG tv oled 4k 120hz version with less emphasis on professional work would cost. I'd be happy with $800-1000

Oohh I hadn't realized that was a "professional" screen, that would make sense. I'd definitely still expect to pay a significant premium for the smaller screens though until the economics work themselves out

Why 48? The 55 costs the same.

Once you got OLED there is no going back.

What are apps are y'all using to get the full benefits of the TV? I have an Amazon account and they have a lot of movies in HDR, so been using that for now. The quality is pretty damn good for some movies. Also been buying 4k Blue Rays.

Every big movie app has hdr and Dolby vision movies and shows now. Just depends on the show or movie.

If you just wanna stare in awe go on YouTube and watch some 4k hdr demos and stuff. You'll know it's hdr even on YouTube cause it'll pop up in the to priggt corner and switch picture settings.
