The 73 year old woman was obviously an immediate threat so they had no choice but to use the amount of force they did.

BJJ/MMA schools are already full of LEO's. My afternoon class had 6 of them out of 18-20 ppl. They get an LEO discount(20% at my school). When you get cops in an environment like that the veil kind of comes down, and they'll tell you the benefits they've gotten from enrolling. More confidence in hand to hand situations. More calm due to the zen nature of training, and being able to slow down in stressful situations. Also resetting some of the "always being on guard training" because of their exposure to people outside of the uniform. They get to be seen as people instead of just "COPS". I think all people should be in some sort of martial arts training, not just for the physical benefits, but the mental positives as well.

When you deal with tons of crap on a daily you joke around about stuff. Being on a stressful job and dealing with the scum of the earth and seeing things that people can’t imagine really takes a toll on people. So joking around about stuff is just a way to relieve stress.
