NBA was the GOAT in the 90s to mid 2000s
now it’s just terrible play, HS drama, players whining and sitting out games with the littlest injuries, politics everywhere.
what am I missing?

I love basketball. The politics everywhere sucks but the thing that will end up making me quit watching is the foul baiting. If it gets any worse I won't be able to enjoy it anymore. It makes me rage when a defender is actively trying to get away from an offensive player and the offensive player jumps into him and isn't even trying to score. The refs need to swallow the whistle on these. At least they don't call it as much during the playoffs

I'm less interested in sports as a whole in general these days (minus MMA & Euro Soccer), but NBA is by far the worst. NBA went from by far my favorite league to my least favorite really quickly. I've stopped paying attention, outside of maybe the playoffs, around the time LeBron formed his 2nd super team. I sometimes turn on a game for background noise & am aware of who the better players/teams are, but that's about it.
The reason why it's so bad in the NBA, setting the politics aside for a moment, is you only have 5 guys on the floor at any given time. If the best players disproportionately abuse their power to stack the deck in their favor, the parity disappears much more quickly and the game becomes less interesting versus other sports that have more players impacting the game. If Ronaldo, Messi, and Lewandowski, for example, formed a super team, they'd be awesome, obviously, but would still need a good defensive unit & a midfield to supply them the ball to make it a cheat code. Not quite the same when KD, Harden, and Cryrie team up, however.

I only watch it to bet on it nowadays. It's sad watching it. Bunch of player standing around to hit threes. Jumping into each other to get contact fouls. Constantly getting "fouled" during drives to the hoops not because there is contact but because a defender actually makes an effort to deny it.
I remember when sports total over/unders were around 190-200. Hell, the Detroit Piston games back 20 years ago had totals in the 170s some games. Now they are 210-230, sometimes even as high as the 240s for the West Coast games. Defense is a joke nowadays because of constant rule changes to benefit the offense.
Jumping into a player intentionally to draw a foul should be an automatic technical. Two of them in a game and get lost *******. Sick of that chit. I can understand initiating some contact when driving to the rim [Since you are actively moving] but it's ridiculous seeing a player jump 2 feet in front of them while shooting a 3 pointer hoping to catch a piece of the defender. It's not a natural shooting motion and the only way to stop it is to threaten the player with removal from the game.

Adam Silver has a lot of work to do. Unfortunately, he has zero vision and will accomplish little to nothing most likely. Stern was hardheaded, but he seemed to know how to hold down the business and build it. I think Adam Silver has shown that he can keep it afloat, but only God knows how ghey this league will continue to become under his watch

100% agree. I used to love watching the NBA, I would get excited to just to relax on Friday nights and watch the back to back ESPN games no matter who was playing. I haven't watched a single game this season. Same can be said about MLB. When I was a kid I would watch every televised MLB game and I would study the stats almanac on the toilet. I now have no idea what's going on in baseball. Like I know Trout and Harper are the best but I can't name any other young stars.
The only sport I regularly watch now is golf. The big tournaments are most fun to watch but I'll watch whatever minor PGA tournament is going on every weekend as well.Never neg first but always neg back crew

Your missing......... that sports is an ESCAPE from day to day real life bullchit and a less than amazing nba game temporarily distracts you from your boss, family, wife/gf, politics, and any other troubling thing on your mind.
It is far from ideal or perfect.... but it is a distraction. There is an unspoken thing, we are iron brothers and sisters, we are to support each other and...It is our duty to support our brothers and sisters in the iron game!

I'm more of a casual fan I guess but it seems like aside from the lack of atmosphere that the league is being ruined by a few players. Younger players like Morant, Trae Young, Miles Bridges, Lamelo Ball, Zion etc have been enjoyable recently and players like Steph Curry, Lillard, Giannis are popular without being way too political

I'll agree with this.
As much as I disliked Kobe and the Lakers...the dude went to work and was great almost every year. Focused on his work.
These are tough days for some ppl I know...but NBA is going 50x overbaord. But They honestly might have given up on most white males as an audience. Srs.Just trying hard to not be a fat sack-o-chit.
