Horrible drop in new members(reaching an all time low)
Interesting thing to note is the slight uptick in posts per day (likely due to covid19 boredom). With the terrible new member integration though this doesn't impress me.
Crazy to think Misc posts per day have dropped 88% since 2013....
This is a DYING forum. I'm already prepping myself to transition fully to reddit/twitter/onlyfans. Recommend you all do the same.

Misc just had its worst year in user engagement(Srs) (proof) 88% drop from 2013

bottom line: zoomers aren't interested in posting on some message board. Traditionally the 16-23 year old demographic was what carried the misc during its hay day. It's a dead end from here.

I've noticed less threads, just in the time i've been posting.
The forum displays threads for a certain time period, when i joined it was usually 300+, now its in the high 200's.
Alot of threads are being deleted too, that might have something to do with itDamn

Yep. Forums don't really get new members. Its basically the same posters on the 2 forums I frequent, slowly decreasing in number as they die.
****posting is something that 30+ year olds do, like knowing how to drive a manual transmission, knowing how to go outside, or knowing that if you have a weiner you're a dude. All 4 seem to be dying arts today.

Because nobody ****ing uses forums anymore...
Plus IMHO the fitness industry just isn't the same today, people look for different concepts than bodybuilding as it used to be.
I remember when I joined, bodybuilding was a pretty standard activity, now I just don't see the appeal, and most work-cells also don't.
People nowadays use instant messaging like Discord and apps like IG, etc.
It's just better to communicate.
In fact, the MISC would be much better on a sort of instant chatting server like Discord/etc.

2012 or 2013 join date checking in.
Haven’t been here for years. Just logged on about a week ago to see what’s up.
Was thinking to myself that this placed dried up. It used to be way more active.
Don’t see many of the old memes either.... hhhnngggg

Truth. I made a thread with a poll a few months back and had hundreds of responses - the average age of the misc is mid-30s and there are more misc brahs over 40 than under 30. Kids aren't interested in typing on a forum to shirtless men talking about reputation points and stats. For some reason, I am. No hetero.

It's weird that nobody new on the earth has joined this forum in years. 2013 feels like it wasn't long ago either.

I read something interesting lately that talked about how much of social media is actual bots engaging with each other(srs). need to find it.
i honestly think a lot of internet/social media traffic the past 8 years is fake (when companies realized how to monetize it they created fake personas to interact and eat up ad dollars). I feel like half the discussion I see (even on reddit) are honestly suspect/not real human interaction(ded fkn srS).
one example, if this is what they are telling us, imagine what they arent telling us...

yea, i think insta is one of the biggest culprits. cause i think bb'ers are showoffs and that's prob where they mainly went. they can get it there. PLUS, there's the prospect of actually monetizing that. would be interesting to see how many people are trying to monetize the internet as compared to the past. that could be HUGE reason people aren't here.
reddit just inherently has a wider base as well since it's not niche based like bodybuilding.
the supp store was prob a huge draw but now you have lots of competition there too with stores like amazon.
google changes all the time too. if you make a website and it gets to the top it doesn't just sit there for eternity, it changes with the times. i remember in the past if you typed something in misc would come up but now it doesnt. they gave different weight to forums now as they don't inherently represent authority
peep this. forum masters complaining about drops in traffic from 2014
https://www.webmasterworld.com/google/4641876.htm
For some reason, since the back end of 2012, ALL of the forums I run have taken a big hit in traffic. First a big knock down in Nov '12, but since then there has been a gradual referral decline from Google. We're now at about 1/2 to 1/3 of the traffic on almost all of the communities we runI experienced the same thing, took a hit to traffic across my forums in mid 2013.
I've been working on SEO since then and no noticeable improvement, they seem to have settled on about 30% of the traffic they used to get.
As you mentioned, it's a real shame because the forums often have the best content out there and the serps are being replace with junk a lot of the time

Jup. I pretty much just logged in to have a peak (and going on a voluntary ban any second now).
But truth be told, its all about engagement and the lack thereof, on such forums.
I'm mostly on IG, ******** to some extent, etc. And the discussion is just more lively & interactive.
It's also not just that this forum is bad per se, but we are talking about the Misc. Its a single section on a large forum. Its not enough to build a tribe & community.
**** needs to evolve (srs) and since it doesnt, people move elsewhere.
There's very few traditional forums that catch my eye these days, and the only ones that do are the ones with very quality posters.
But that's just rare. People are bored by forums and their heavy ass functionalities.
And yeah, there's some weird people and toxicity here. Holy ****, when I joined in 2007, I never realised it.
But its there for the past 5-10 years at least. That's too bad because among the sea of **** threads, there's some cool discussions.
I remember the old days, when it wasn't a sea of racist/controversial/incel threads and just people asking bodybuilding questions.
It has little worth now. Time to move on, like everything else in life.

definitely has to do with social media, People in this day an age don't even know what a forum is,Even back in the misc hay day people in real life didn't know what a forum was.
