I don't listen to a bunch of metal, so I'm not qualified to rank the top albums. But here are a couple that I do really like:
HIM Greatest Lovesongs, Vol. 666
HIM Razorblade Romance
You death metal heads might not even think that's metal. I saw it once described as gothic metal or alternative metal.

Extremely difficult if not impossible to say.
Lately, these are some records I've had on repeat:
Gojira: From mars to sirius
Voivod: Nothingface
Both fantastic albums.*Look at reflection in car window and flex every time crew*
*Use half the roll to wipe after a poo crew*
*Fart in the gym and blame rotten smell on faulty ventilation crew*
*Fart at home and blame it on the dog crew*
*Watch neutron-star density poop mock me as water flushes around it and it stays put crew*
*Drive 2 minutes in the summer and back of shirt gets completely wet crew*
*Coffee black as midnight on a moonless night crew*
*Fat shame my cat on a daily basis crew*

Sad Wings of Destiny or Stained Class (Judas Priest)
Ride the Lightning (Metallica) - Master of Puppets is just below though.
The Spectre Within (Fates Warning)
though I have to add Iron Maiden's Piece of Mind or Powerslave aswell, very hard to narrow it down to a top 3.-Jesus Christ is my savior crew-
*WetBreasts is gonna make it crew*

I'll do a 70s 80s and 90s selection
1978-Judas Priest, Stained Class. Great band at the top of their game, creatively. Balanced mix of different tempos, sweet ballad with Beyond the Realms of Death.
1983-Def Leppard, Pyromania. I know I know, it's not troo and brootal and kvlt. But this album is probably about as heavy as you can get without losing some people, which is the whole idea.
1995-Suffocation, Pierced From Within. On the other end of the spectrum this is about as heavy as you can possibly get without devolving into farce. This album is still leagues heavier than stuff made today. Basically the sonic equivalent of a monster truck rolling over your face.

Rust In Peace - arguably the finest thrash metal album ever produced. Definitely my favorite thrash metal record. I recently got it on vinyl so I can tear up my living room. Also recently learned Holy Wars in its entirety on guitar. I think I posted a cover version on here many months ago. Mustaine truly writes the most sickening "lead on rhythm guitar" riffs.
