My gym has been open since around Labor Day. Our dictatorial governor finally allowed them to reopen with limited capacity. Have to wear a mask all the time. Not going to go into the whole mask debate (I think its nonsense) because if I want to use the gym I have to wear them.
I have been through a bunch of different ones including ones that were made by companies that were involved in athletic activities like cycling. Have tried a bunch of different ones including Outdoor Research, Kitsbow (the worst of all), Champion, blah, blah. Any of the ones made of fabric SUCK. You cant breathe because the fabric is too thick. Some of them are so bad you want to pass out.
And to top it off some were expensive at $25 a pop. Thanks but I wont be doing that again.
The thinnest ones by far are the blue surgical masks.
Guess what? In the end they ALL SUCK.

Mine just makes you wear the mask when walk in or walking around
If you are lifting it doesnt need to be on...people are just courteous on putting it on in between sets but nobody really cares
I just keep a bandana on and pull it up if im walking around...i dont like it that they turned off all the water fountains though

Im working at a gym now and the city guidelines require us to enforce masks on folks at all times. Was only when entering and exiting when we first opened back up in june. Really sucks. Treadmills were also not allowed to operate but they are allowing them back open this Friday. Every other cardio equipment was allowed though. How stupid

NJ makes you wear the mask 24/7 but I just use the gym in my condo clubhouse and im usually the only one so no mask, just wipe down. Plan to go back to a commercial gym this week for the first time to check it out.
If you are not willing to risk the unusual, you will have to settle for the ordinary

I wear some black surgical mask and it's the goat srs. Lets enough air in when I breathe, and it also doesn't collapse and get sucked to my face.

All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."

unless you are doing cardio for like 30 minutes of cardio it isn't really that big of a deal to me
my gym doesn't require you to wear masks at all times but just as an experiment I did some tough high rep squats with a mask on. Yeah, it's a little uncomfortable but really not the end of world here. Didn't have trouble breathing was just more unpleasant if anything. It might be a little harder to catch your breath while recovering after the set though. The mask thing while working out is pretty overboard. A mask on while walking around, and entering and exiting the gym is more reasonable while keeping it off while doing your sets and staying in your own little corner is fine. But I doubt gym staff really wants to bother to enforce these minor little details. Most people from what I see are just kinda like meh, w.e and just fatigued with all these restrictions.positivity brah crew

Lol, I take HIIT classes regularly where they make everyone wear a mask the entire time. It's a bit easier now that I'm in better shape than a month ago, but it still sucks ass. I searched around for the most paper thin surgical mask I could find, and it's at least tolerable now. The mask literally does nothing.

nah it doesn't, those "oxygen" masks you see fitness people use are useless and don't help you develop a better VO2 max like higher altitude training. MMA fighters may have super-specific uses for it as if the fight goes on the ground you will see fighters sometimes cover the opponent's mouth to restrict their breathing.
Read it somewhere, but I think it was basically with or without a mask, you are still breathing in the same amount of density oxygen to air ratio. It's just less air with a mask. Where as at an altitude you would breathe the same amount of air, but less density oxygen and it is this less density of oxygen which forces the body to adapt by increasing VO2 max.positivity brah crew
