Jordan has a great mind, but his case illustrates how money and power can get to one's head. I don't fully buy the story that he started taking benzos purely because his wife's illness (I'm sure that played a part in it). I think more likely he became an overnight sensation and millionaire and had a chit ton of pressure with constant media appearances and live talks. That kind of pressure and having to always be on your A game which can lead people to seeking something to take the edge off and calm down their anxiety. At the end of the day, he is human with all the the imperfections that come with.

I think Jordan had good advice on life in general. My main issue with him is he is not a scientist, and he lacks the intelligence and education to comment on science issues. When he talked about climate change and many other issues like that, he crossed the line into bullshyt. For general life advice and motivational speaking for young men, he's great. But he should stick to his field and stfu about stuff he knows nothing about.

It's impossible to have listened to 1+ hour of uncut/unedited Jordan Peterson footage and dislike the guy.

You'd pretty much have to be an actual modern day marxist rooting for the destruction of the west to listen to a large chunk of him and dislike him. Or be the kind of person who formulates their opinions based on headlines, media narratives and very short edited clips.

He basically teaches common sense and self responsibility, and the idea that you have a large amount of control over how strong and successful you are to people who have never encountered these ideas before. All the dramatic sht around him is made up by the media.

Regardless of people’s opinion of him, his success says a lot about how far removed we are from common sense and simple truth in society. When we are at the point where we are told that up is down, left is right, men are women, and 2+2=5, simple advice like “clean your room” and “take responsibility” can bring back order amongst all the chaos.

Background in clinical psychology who is essentially dedicated to helping young men (and women, to a degree) find a way to be anchored and seek meaning in life, basically encouraging men to be less useless and pursue what is meaningful to them rather than expedient. He strongly opposes a lot of marxist values due to decades of research into totalitarian leftist regimes, and prefers to focus on the individual rather than group/identity politics, basically espousing the individual as the ultimate minority. If you look up '12 rules for life', you'll get a decent idea of what he's about.

But he's become notorious because of his defense of free speech by the lefties and transgenders etc when canada introduced a bill enforcing the use of personal pronouns, rather than his psychological work. The radical left have tried to paint him as some kind of ultra right wing nazi, which if you actually spend some time listening to his work and lectures is absolutely outrageous and could not be further from the truth. Realistically they don't care about his work and simply see him as a threat to their ideology due to his huge popularity, so they're just throwing everything they have at him.

Some of his work is very abstract, but his message is generally good and he's a smart guy with a really interesting world view who genuinely is just trying to help people. I think he takes an abstract view to a lot of his work to aid people's understanding in what are quite complex topics. The thought process that has gone through his abstraction is really quite mind blowing and impressive, you can tell he's spent decades formulating his ideas. He's honestly a really, really important character in the worlds current climate, and I personally have put some of his ideas into practice and it's improved my life for the better.

I've listened to dozens of hours of JP and I've never once heard him profess to be a mathematics genius or climate change expert. People love to make straw men of this dude it's pretty fascinating.
