Real talk I know I shouldn't have let the hype for Chainsaw Man steer me towards setting my expectations really high for the show but honestly, I'm keeping up with it to give it a chance but I it's been a big, lowbrow, shallow disappointment. It looks gorgeous and they obviously spent a lot of money on the project to make it shiny but narratively I heard it was supposed to be a "masterpiece" and a generational work (at least according to the manga fans) and this is honestly better compared to the likes of Highshool DxD or Jujutsu Kaisen (I feel like it's MUCH fairer to compare CSM to the likes of JJK, Demon Slayer, stylistically MHA even) than Berserk, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Ghost in the Shell, even Attack on Titan.
It's fun in the turn your brain off and enjoy kind of way imo but I feel like the shounen flavor (outside of the gratuitous blood and gore) is extremely prominent at almost every angle. A lot of the characters are written as heavy exaggerations of peoples or archetypes imo. Not necessarily a bad thing but I guess it's egg on my face for coming in expecting Akira or Death Note.
