Cop Misbehavior Thread

I would like to discuss why people hate cops so much. There seems to be a lot of members who think cops don't do anything wrong.

I will be posting various articles, interviews, videos and anecdotal encounters.

I will be pretty busy over the next 10 days but will try to post something everyday at some point for us to debate.

If you think the cop is behaving correctly based on the founding principles of this country state why.

I would love for cops to weigh in.


For the record. I've never been arrested. I've never been in handcuffs. I've never done drugs including marijuana. I haven't been drunk since 1991.

I have voted straight Republican since 1987 so I'm not a leftist. But cops took an oath to uphold the constitution and they violate their oath daily.

Some stories and videos may be old. Some may be reposts.

I think the vast majority of them range from all out cop land training day scum to guys that stretch the law and violate people's constitutional rights on a weekly basis.

Then when you ad in the cops that remain silent about misbehavior and or do nothing about it then they become complicit in such behavior.

Argue your side. Why should we love cops?

Especially when carrying a gun is not required for your job? And when your job doesn't require you to go into hostile situations? And when the suicide rate for people in your profession is much lower than that of the police?

I do think it's a good idea actually, but I'm just responding to the OP. I'm sure there are sites for this kind of thing already.

The common response from pro cop people is the only people who have negative run ins or opinions about cops are criminals and leftists. Which I am not.

I am engaging in public civil discourse. We need major police reform in this country.

We have been way too lenient for way too long.

Like any job, some are good at it and some are bad at it. Unfortunately it’s a more important job to society than say a grocery store clerk and internal departments don’t do that adequate of a job fixing the situation. That’s all it comes down to. Also, unfortunately violence is a part of the job, so when it’s used incorrectly it’s a bigger deal than a target cashier ringing up a product wrong

Cops are not regular citizens. They are agents of the government. So yes they should fall under greater scrutiny because they have the ability to destroy lives.

Cops know what they are signing up for.

Your argument would be akin to someone joining the military and then saying woah I don't want to be deployed.

Really? We need MAJOR reform? Define major. In what ways would you change the laws around police officers, in a major way?

I'm not saying I'm a cop lover, but these people have difficult jobs to do, with people who frequently aren't mentally "there" all the time. I can see small changes, here and there, depending on the jurisdiction, but major? No. You're either an idiot or your making a troll thread or both.

There are good cops and bad cops. The real issue is that a lot of them don't always do things by the book, and that's where things get messy for everyone.

The black brah who they had originally stopped, was told to walk away and thankfully he did.



I'm not on either side here, but it must suck for cops right now. They're literally under a microscope, and the slightest wrong the commit with be met with harsh judgement.

Gangs will take over low income neighborhoods, and rich neighborhoods will establish their own private patrols that operate under a corrupt biased agenda?

All the crime detectives and specialized units solve on the back end would no longer be solved. You’re an idiot if you think this world would be better off without the police force.

The people don’t have the capacity to police themselves, that’s exactly why Law Enforcement exists

It's not just about violence.

It's about abuse of power.

It's about giving unlawful orders.

It's about breaking the same laws that they enforce.

It's about them thinking they are at war with the public.

It's honestly about them thinking they are above the public the way an owner is above a pet or a parent is above a child.

There are good cops and bad cops. The real issue is that a lot of them don't always do things by the book, and that's where things get messy for everyone.

If cops followed the letter of the law and the constitution I wouldn't have an issue.

If they started normal interactions in a civil manner and were polite I wouldn't have an issue.

But don't walk up to a normal non violent encounter and start off with that cop voice and don't get pissy when people don't answer questions or ID when you haven't met the conditions of Terry.

The problem with your argument is police are not robots, shady people exist in every profession. There’s always a restaurant worker that pockets others money, there’s always an office worker who screws over others for a promotion, there’s always going to be cops who abuse their authority.

Have you seen a state book of county ordinances and laws, have you seen a departments policy manual do you really expect a police officer to have every last word of those books memorized?

It is not hard to do police work, in fact it’s stupidly easy. A monkey could do this job. The problem arises when an individual fails to educate themselves beyond basic academy and field training.

What changes or reforms would you propose if you feel so strongly about it, the burden of bettering the department comes down to the individual. If they don’t wanna put in the effort they’re more of a liability to everyone their fellow officers included.

It’s unreasonable to expect police to have every letter of law memorized down to the very last period and comma.
