In the NY Metro area, there are too many people from low IQ backgrounds, as well as too many people who barely speak any English, for me to adopt such a strict policy and still hope to sell stuff quickly. So I've gotten fairly patient in terms of answering questions. But I have no patience for flakes, so I don't hold items or go further than my driveway for a sale.

interesting sidetracked thread, I've used the following marketplaces. my quick review on each.
- ******** marketplace you get better behaved sellers and buyers (since less anonymous usually).
- Craigslist most reach and is most anonymous (if you use burner text messages like google voice) and if you take other precautions. Has the most scammers and worst behaved.
- Offer up, good mix of convenience/anonymity/safety as you have some historical stats of buyers and seller ratings and it's not tied to real name.

We get 5 whitetail tags in TX and I plan on using all of them this year. Also have some axis deer around sometimes that are exotic and can be hunted year round with no limits. They rut in the summer so I might have to get out there and stock up again. Only problem there is trying to clean a deer in the Texas summer...

The frenzy has passed. People who didn't have anything at home to train with have either bought or have decided to do without. In general, prices are dropping. Flippers thinking of capitalizing on rack and dumbbell on-line purchases in hopes of making 3x what they paid are finding they may stuck with this equipment just like those idiot toilet paper hoarders. Too many were getting overly worked up over the price gouging. This was simple economic principles in play, the supply was low, demand was high, and prices adjusted. Now supply is less, demand is lower, now prices are adjusting back down. Will prices get back down to where they once were, probably not, but they're trending back down.
And to those thinking there will be a mass sell-of soon when SIP protocols are lifted, it's not happening...gyms are more likely to close than reopen, so people are going to be training at home longer than you think. I just saw proposed guidelines for gyms to reopen in CA and let's just say it will likely close every gym outside of a mega-corporate gym, and even those are going to thin down and close as well. I believe we are in the beginning of a home-based fitness evolution.

I don't know what the post from Darth Cholo is talking about. Rogue is still sold out of plates (except for a few specialty, very expensive change plates). I check them everyday for that magic day when the foldable bench becomes available (sold my Cybex FID, not needed anymore). Anyway I think "gouging days are over" depends on your definition of gouging, but $1.25/lb for 1", $2 for 2" plates is still selling. If my wife didn't want to use my Concept2 Model C, I'd probably sell it for $850 haha.
Will be interesting to see the long term effects of this re: home gyms, I agree. I do think there will be a massive sell off of equipment sometime in the next 12 months, conservatively. People are people. There will always be the "New Years Resolution" sell offs, or in this case the "Great Quarantine Fitness Equipment sell off of 2021"Last edited by triplechris; 05-06-2020 at 09:22 AM.

Good thing this honey hole is still intact.
Not srs.
If you want to take a chance, looks like they're taking preorders on bowflexes.

Having a heck of a time finding what i'm looking for as far as equipment. Any good sites to find olympic plates at fair prices, that aren't all sold out or "temporarily shut down?" I know where i'm getting my rack and bars from, but the market for plates seems to be at it's worst right now. I think I saw someone trying to sell like 50-200 pounds of cap weights for $2000 the other day. That's just, what's wrong with people?

Walmart had 25lb CAP dumbbells in stock for a few minutes earlier today. Stuff is coming back, but very slowly. The peak in gym gear pricing has been more plateau than sharp peak. Definitely surprised me as I thought we'd be declining by now, but prices remain persistently high.

Dynamic has bumpers in stock. They are at "Hi, I have grant money to spend" pricing though.

Maybe in the short term, but as we develop immunity and medical treatments improve I think the 'commercial gym' scene will return to normal. Your 'Average Joe' & specialized 'hardcore' gyms might close down because they were barely breaking even to begin with, but someone will see opportunity in their loss and fill the void. At least that's my guess, we will find out in the next 6-12 months.

This man is correct, but I was still surprised to see that craigslist disclaimer posted. For a while I had been considering buying a second pair of 25lb six shooter plates, but was waiting for me to need to order some more things to put in an order and then this happened. Plates for sure are months away, but other items on Rogues site as you stated are being stocked as they're being manufactured here in USA or received from China.
I sold my Concept 2 for top dollar recently and after a few missed in-stock alerts, was able to snatch a new Rogue Echo bike and should arrive tomorrow. It doesn't help that I live in the most expensive part of the country and in general SF/bay area has a lot of health nuts.

Guess the gym location will also have a big impact on what 'Normal' looks like when things calm down. In the county where I live we are have 50 confirmed cases and 5 deaths as a result of COVID, total population is 169k to put that into perspective. So in an area like mine I don't foresee mass panic or paranoia unless those numbers spike significantly, fingers crossed for a healthy population and business as usual.

Oof. Don't spend all day refreshing. Use "Page Monitors" Google Chrome extensions. Select parts of a page ie "Notify me" section as it'll turn to "Add to cart". Plays a bell if your selection changes. I used to run these monitors on local offer ups for Powerblocks. How I cooked them up so fast. They're just a resource hog since it's Chrome.

This is what I'm seeing as well in my area. I see multiple unsold Powerblocks 5-50 listings priced at $500. Same with dumbbells and weights priced at $1.50-2/lb. Most people have bought the weights they needed or just decided to wait it out until gyms reopen.
What seems to be selling well is small easy to move machines. Presumably from people that have decided to build out their home gyms but aren't very knowledgable on quality equipment. I had posted a residential grade back machine and two back extensions. I had multiple offers on all three and a buyer lined up within 30 minutes of posting it.

In the current market at least in the last few weeks not just the buyers but there are flakes on sellers side too
They think they can get more than what they agreed to and go cold probably after looking at the prices on FB ,CL etc
It happened to me only once though

IronMaster pissed me off last night. They were supposed to get the IM2000 in (limited supply) around May 8th with a larger supply in late June. I even signed up for the email notification. I was browsing their site last night and saw that it was no longer listed as being out of stock. I added it to my cart, along with a couple accessories for it. I went to check out and got a message that they didn't offer shipping to my location. I opened another browser and went to their site and it showed it was out of stock again until late June. I called their customer service number and explained I have one in my cart. They said they sold out quickly. Apparently they don't understand what a shopping cart is, should've taken it out of inventory once I added it to my cart. He admitted they've had some website problems. Now I'm stuck waiting until the end of June. As soon as I had my confirmed order, I was going to list my PowerTec power rack on FB and CL to help offset the cost of the IM2000. Won't get near as much for it by the end of June.

Their website/ordering system hasn’t changed in many years. It was antiquated when I bought my first load of stuff from them six years ago. They have always seemed uniformed on how their website works. This situation has just exposed the issue.
They have always been great to deal with over the phone, and took excellent care of me though.
