Could be true. Japan has contained their outbreak pretty well but the US is about to surpass them in cases. People blame mismanagement by the CDC. Although it might just be because Japan is relatively isolated and doesn’t have as much DivErsIty and travel as the US does.

What's kinda strange to me is their provinces or states or whatever show such low numbers of infected and very low death rates, something like an average of less than 1% out of Hubei. Suspicious. They did quarantine and do all sorts of crazy measures, but that was after the cat was out of the bag anyway. With the resources stretched so far so quickly, they either narrowly avoided a disaster or are hiding one. Especially considering what's going on in Italy..
Virtue is its own reward.

This is the informational thread, but I'll offer informed speculation:
Once it's out-of-control, you're only treating the people triage tells you need help urgently and asking the others to kindly fukk off because you need the beds. Out of the percentage of people you actually treat - and therefore test - they are very likely to die.
Other provinces that were able to move on this earlier and had the benefit of the government shutting off the flow of Wuhanfugees have the luxury of treating milder cases, and so have more survivors in their data.Last edited by ANumber1; 03-08-2020 at 03:05 PM.

I’ve criticized him for some of his recent actions, and God knows he’s sounded like an idiot lately....but don’t forget that CNN’s top DOCTOR flat out said Trump’s restrictions prohibiting travel into America from China in mid-Feb. for non-citizens was racist. If he had acted more harshly the attacks would’ve been 10x worse, and now they’re attacking him for inaction. I think things are a little more tricky here due to the structure. It’d be like the EU trying to control spread throughout all of Europe. It’ll get a lot worse and Trump deserves blame for some of it, but you think about stuff like LA holding their marathon today you realize a lot of the blame should be placed squarely on state and local govt.

That's my thoughts - what criteria are they using to really point one way or the other. At this point if this thing is widespread, which is most likely, they need to just prepare for everyone to get sick or if perhaps the majority of us have already been sick.. think back to January or February did you have a nasty cold/flu that didn't go away without leaving a cough behind for weeks?

Exactly.
A daily reminder of how idiots misrepresent statistics to create panic.
I am just gobsmacked at some serious comments by people wanting to shut down a whole country: schools, airports, all commerce. Yeah because that isn't an overreaction that won't do more damage than good? lol @ Trump haters, he did shut off flights to China way back in January btw.
It's like people have no idea how detrimental snap-reactions can be to an economy, they read a total of deaths not taking in consideration the demographic and %. Elementary school minds thinking everything is easy as "Shut it all down until there are zero cases!".
"Millions and millions are probably infected by we just don't know" - amazing science and factual logic right here. Let's just make things up and speculate.
Many places the infection rates are tapering off. The reality still is, fatality rates are nothing alarming. Preventative measures are fine, but over-reacting will do more damage. It's like people want this to get worse so it's something they can talk about.
Reading the YOUTUBE comments on a video where some Canadian Health representative starts sobbing just made me lose more faith in humanity. People legitimately thinking: "It's way worse than what they are saying, this truly could be the end". These are the idiots buying all the toilet paper. They waited until ages to put up travel bans from high-risk areas because of the usual left politics and criticized other leaders for doing it under a racism tone. Now they have leaders who are meant to show calm, sobbing in public. So now the moron citizens think it's some outbreak zombie apocalypse. Just lol.Last edited by EoR; 03-08-2020 at 11:36 PM.

The whole thing has been a media created mass panic.
Less than 4,000 people worldwide dead from it-the majority of those people with serious health issues already & living in unsanitary conditions, meanwhile in the US alone the flu has claimed 18,000 lives this flu season & worldwide around 650,000 people die of flu every year. A planet where nearly 8 billion people exist & yet this thing has infected around 111 thousand-the overwhelming majority in China & only 3-3.5% of those have died.AP5 Crew

On other forums there's talk of scans from recovered patients showing basically permanent lung damage. Dunno if true or bull**** but apparently SARS and MERS left permanent lung damage in many patients who recovered from it as well.

The problem with this whole thing (for me) is it's hard to sift through factual things and what's total bull****. (After all, it is a brand new virus. Who fuking knows what's true and what isn't.)
I don't gauge much of anything on Chinese numbers. They lie about every fuking thing. There's not telling if the numbers they're reporting are accurate or way less than what's really happening. I wouldn't doubt if they aren't even reporting the real number of infected, much less real number of deaths.

You've just got to apply some logic. Not what morons call "common sense", but actual thinking.
The Chinese numbers exist. We know we can't check them and they're probably wrong, but at least we have a sense of why they are wrong and you can cross-reference them against other numbers and data for infleunza and other coronavirus variants to draw some reasonable conclusions.
It's also OK to just calmly accept that there are things we don't know and probably won't ever know for sure, without filling in the blanks with either hysteria or unreasonably rosy speculation.Nah, fukk that. I’m not doing that.

If it was just China it might not mean much, but South Korea is reporting the same thing. The reality is we are a lot better as a world at controlling these outbreaks now than we have been in the past-even what we were 10-15 years ago when all the others that were supposed to be killing millions of people but drizzled out pretty quickly happened.

This, for me the issue is currently there are 2 camps; The 'Its just a flu, bro' camp and the full on apocalypse mode camp. The reality is probably somewhere in the middle. Yes this could get bad, but the vast majority will make it through just fine. Be prepared, but don't panic.

In what way? Viruses/plagues have been around since the beginning of time-there is no conspiracy theory here, this is just reality-large swathes of people don't wash their hands after going to the toilet, or sneeze & cough into the air or into their hands rather than using a tissue/hankie, many people in various countries insist on eating bats etc, many countries are still living with standards of cleanliness akin to the Tudor times with people sleeping with animals in huts, raw sewage running into the streets, rats running around everywhere etc. We could eradicate the common cold & flu's if human beings weren't so disgusting & just practiced basic hygiene standards. Imagine having to tell people to wash their hands after going to the toilet, or not to cough & sneeze into their hands or on other people. Now we have all these idiots out buying hand sanitisers to where the shops are having to limit how many they can buy-when most of them probably sit there scratching their bare ass & sticking their fingers up their noses every day & are the reasons these things infect swathes of the population in the first place.

This. But advocating for a middle ground isn’t well received. It's not apocalypse mode or panicking to have a month or so of food on hand as a backup. Especially if you have spare finances. Heck early on when some of us moved money around to reduce exposure to the markets it was seen as panicky, but that proved to be worthwhile.

Fantasy. No doubt that he has the info, but he isn't presenting it, and may not be interpreting it clearly due to his own thought processes. The same thing happened during his interactions with military leadership.
Trump was eager to get his shots in at China, but dealing with Americans is another story. There is no serious question right now that Trump is trying to downplay the situation for the sake of the market while health authorities are running against his wishes to try to get information to the public. The media has been unfair to him in some ways, but you don't even need to follow the reporting, just watch the press conferences directly, to see him make misstatements before his own experts patiently correct him. The mainstream reporting is consistent with that visible reality, but now there's a steady stream of disinformation coming out of hillbillies on ******** and Twitter because they think Trump's Twitter account is telling them the entire truth and that the media is therefore lying when they accurately report what his own administration is trying to tell the public.
Lifelong Republican here who worked on multiple federal campaigns, but Trump has a persistent problem with trying to revert to real estate hype tactics that are good for raising money for a project but less effective for critical decision-making. Trump, IMO, is an effective candidate but a mediocre leader - and also a populist fiscal catastrophe and not a conservative of any kind. Still not voting for Biden or Sanders. Might write in Dr. Schnabel von Rom.Nah, fukk that. I’m not doing that.

Was the Spanish Flu an illusion then? Bubonic plague which lasted for hundred of years? The reality is this is having the exact opposite of control-like Italians going on the run over the weekend rather than being isolated. What exactly is your logic here? That this is something created in a lab to be injected into large swathes of people which shuts down countries & to put people out of business? How would that benefit anybody in power if everybody is either dead or in quarantine? What power do these people have when their economy is in the crapper?
