Agree with that, but I don't know much about police protocol, so I can't definitively take a stand on either side. In every police shooting I have seen, they always focus on disarming the perpetrator, whether knife or gun, and then cuffing them, even while they are bleeding out. If anyone knows why, they are free to chime in.

You only use a taser against a deadly weapons such a knife, scissors cutting instrument etc when you have DEADLY FORCE backup at ready. Tasers are not 100% effective and sometimes plain don't work. SO if you have a person coming at you with scissors and you tase them without deadly force backup. Ooopps they done stabbed you in the throat before you can draw your handgun, RIP in peace brah.

This. Had another LEO been on scene with him, you have one ready with a taser or some other less lethal option (OC, bean bag gun, etc) and the second armed with deadly force.

Also, I know some departments that still don't carry tasers. It's rare, and probably not the case here, but they do exist.
