Thisssssssssss. Legend of heroes amazing JRPG series. A good place to start would be IMO is Legend of heroes : trails of cold steel, its a fresh story line and the graphics are more up to date then the earlier games
Others include:
Dragon quest 11
Ni no kuni 1 and 2
Majority of the Tales series (tales of vesperia would be a great start)

star ocean is legit. honestly the first game was the only one where i was like "wow i love this game." everyone says the second is the best, but i found the first to be completely amazing
the series dips hard after that. star ocean til the end of time was awesome but it was all over the place
its on ps4 now pretty sweet
nostalgia
if the series continued with it's design from star ocean 1 and 2 i have no doubt this would have been one the greatest series alongside final fantasy, tales of, persona, fire emblem, suikoden etcLast edited by 2RDEYE; 01-23-2020 at 11:36 AM.

^ I need to play first departure never did. Did you ever play Star Ocean 4, the last hope? In all my JRPG gaming I have never skipped a cutscene but in that game I literally couldn't help it with some of them. And if you have played it I am positive you can literally never not rehear that 'kaaaaaaaaaay' voice acting.
One game not mentioned
Valkyrie Profile 1 and even 2 were both so good. That's my secret Captain. I'm always shredded

Suikoden II is my all time favorite.
FF VI, VII were great, but almost too obvious to list.
Xenogears was amazing. Too bad Xeno saga went so cut scene heavy.
Star Ocean 2 was top notch. I remember the crafting system being really good.
Chrono Trigger was great and probably the first one I really got in to.
Suikoden I was good.
The original FF tactics is a great game.
Super mario RPG was another solid game.

Lunar Legend.
Lufia: The ruins of Lore.
If you don't mind mobile phone ones, Another Eden is a good one."Have faith in the Lord Fifth, gain eternal life! When the Lord Fifth appears, who dares to cause strife!"
"Heyyy. Hi there! Hello! I’m Lord Third. Let me tell you something, do you know how high I can count? I can count to three…"
“Little Haowie, don’t you worry,” it said, eyes shining brightly. “My dream is that, upon entering the Black Lands, there will be people there shouting the name of Lord Fifth. Then, my two great armies will join together to become like my wings!”

Hmm a new mana game. I havent played a JRPG since FF7 on ps1, srs. Ive only played american rpgs like zeldas, fable, witcher.
I LOVED secret of mana on SNES and was so excited for the remake but it got obliterated in the reviews. Hopefully they do a good job on Trials of Mana, I will buy it if they fixe the issues this time.

Loved Shining Force. Beat the first one as a kid with my main guy at level one. I was scared to fight with him since you lose if he dies.
Beat it years later with more srpgs under my belt. This time I made the protagonist one of my best fighters.
Shining Force 2 was more awesomeness.***The Misadventires of Gandalf the Black***

DQXI was pretty solid from this gen.
Picked up Three Houses recently and it puts me to mind of the old Shining Force games which I like. Supposedly the whole series is of a similar style which I did not know.
The thing I don't like is that the game is centered around being an old dude who supposedly wants to bang all of your underage students. Which is a super creepy vibe.***Mariah Carey is my 10/10 Crew***

It's been close to a year lol, during that time span I've played/finished:
- Divinity 2 Original Sin (honestly one of the GOAT games)
- Witcher 3 (also an amazing game in it's own right)
- Chrono Trigger (I liked it, but being an old game I definitely would have enjoyed it 10x more if I played it back then as the mechanics were ahead of their time)
- Final Fantasy 7 Crisis Core (very short game like 10-15 hours or so, but man the story was great and hit me in the feels pretty hard, had to change the difficulty because it was just difficult in a bitch kind of way, like a fight taking 20 minutes of repeated button mashing like crazy)
- Star Ocean: The First departure (honestly not a huge fan of the combat style at all in this game, maybe one of those games I would have enjoyed more if I played it as a kid but I did enjoy the story and the soundtrack, the specialty/skill system was intriguing though)positivity brah crew

Fuk these forums srs, I typed all that chit in order for bb.com to say access denied and had to retype it all again because I lost the text. Made sure to copy this time.
Anyways ...
Right now I picked up Legend of Heroes: Trails of the Sky for $10 on steam. The pacing of the game seems a bit slow in the beginning but I'm kind of glad it gives you a tutorial/rundown of things. Only a few hours into though but so far enjoying it. I think this is gonna be good no spoilers pls.
Overall it's just hard to go back and play old JRPG's or similar past 15 years old, even if they are remakes. Eventually they just age way too much which sucks because you know you would have enjoyed it if only you had been introduced to it earlier. Not even sure if I want to play DQ8 which is apparently one of the GOATs b/c it looks aged, but may be worth it IDK.
Since basically everything is closed up during this scamdemic, and I'm basically on LDAR mode. Next on my list is perhaps some more of the Legend of Heroes games. I want to play through Persona 4 and 5 as well. Probably DQ 11 is on the list but saving that for last cuz apparently that one is long af. Normally it would take me about a month to finish a 30-40 hour game (average 7-10 hours a week of games) but now I'm probably double that at this point lul.positivity brah crew

thanks for the rundown brah
heard of it, but haven't checked it out
BRO you fooking goofed
probably in my top 3 of JRPGs of all time. It's a bit slow at first with all the talking and dialogue. It really starts to ramp up and become amazing once you get your 4th party member. The combat/djinn system is so unique even to this day, can create so many different builds with fun spells. Golden Sun 2 is even better and that's where everything makes sense and comes together. Great story, great soundtrack, isn't just about the combat but the puzzles as well. I have a few gripes about the game like back tracking and random djinni encounters but overall amazing srs.positivity brah crew
