Generally on isolation, I use tools that function unilaterally like kettlebells, dumbbells, single cable handles, etc. Curling is no different for me - i've found that zottman, drag, and spider or preacher curls function most effectively after my compounds on a bicep day. The straight bar doesn't work too well for me on curls, ez-curl i'm okay with though - it depends on the angle of the bar. I've used it for curls, extensions, rows, presses, never felt any pains from it. I consider the curl bar one of the best investments I ever made haha.
