So they just changed how the military pension works (U.S. Active Duty), but for a majority of folks in the service now if you serve 20 years, you recieve 50% of your base pay.. aka 2.5% of per year of your highest three years of service.
Also if you are married for 10+ years and divorce, your ex-wife will recieve half of your pension (so 25% of your base pay for your career)...
Seen some military spouses punch out days after 10+ years.. brutal.Soda free/Pork free

Super personal but my mom cheated on my dad and f’d him over for child support. He almost had the house that we lived in paid for. He had to go live in a slummy apartment and start over. While my mom let my new stepdad move in. She eventually got married 5 times with the same result each time. That’s the short story

Really only know of how my mother did my father.
-Lost three businesses that he built up from the ground
-Divorced him and claimed that he left his children stranded. So when he came back to town the judge ordered for him to be arrested
-Took back the 3-5k necklace he bought her and got a 8k one instead
-Lost all of his land and home in the country
-lost every car that he was selling in the process 50-100k value
And a bunch more of crazy chit. This is why you don’t fall for the chick that you and your buddies had a bet on.-SS is jealous of me crew-

Horrible and all, but I recall two things:
-He cheated on her and the sex tape was public
-He admitted during the divorce he actually wanted her to get a good payout.
Although she obviously wanted more. To be honest even though I'm a man if I was married to a multi-millionaire female (lol) and she cheated on me in public I would take her to the fking cleaners. Would likely donate the money to charity if I got it.

Ages ago a bloke i was mates with met this female... got the whole sob story about her ex being abusive, this that and the other.
If I remember right, her teenage daughter actually tried to give the heads up like "don't get sucked in i have seen her do this before". Anyway... he buys her a car, signs the lease on a house they're going to move into together.... literally like, I dunno i think it was like the very next day or it might have been as soon as they had moved in... she orders him out, calls the cops and gets an AVO against him. He's stuck paying off the car and the rent, obviously.
Fkn mind blown.
A couple years back this other female I knew used to have a bunch of guys on rotation she'd tell a sob story too and have them come over and buy her groceries and leave cash which I'd then take and buy pizza and bourbon with. Not uhhh.... not one of the best things I've ever been a party to.

Wow OP this is kind of funny. Because I went through a mega rough patch in my life and my gf was trying her best to support me whilst she was finishing up school. As a way to repay her and as a present for her graduation, I bought and booked an entire weeklong vacation doing everything we’ve ever spoke about doing in Australia. Easily ended up being a few grand. However, a month after I booked it she broke up with me and I had to scramble to cancel everything. Never told her that I even booked the trip as it was going to be a surprise, but man this easily could have been me in your story.

If anyone should take anything from this, don't marry broke women. Seriously, I don't care if you want a stay at home wife. You run the risk of getting screwed over. Start marrying on status and income just like they do, youll have some peace of mind. srs
Dont marry a woman with a lot of debt
Dont marry someone based on their looks, especially if they are high maint.
Don't let friends fall for this stuff, it it ruins your friendship, then so be it. At least have the peace of mind that you warned them. I rather have someone pissed off at me then see them living on the streets or finding out they committed suicide.

You hear about these stories and then you understand why some men just murder their wives instead of divorcing them. I'm not saying it's right, but I understand.
If I'm dating a divorced woman and I find out she screwed over her ex-husband, I'm not having anything to do with her. Was dating this little brunette. She was a school teacher, but had only been one for 3 years, before that she worked cashier type jobs and never made any real money. Yet, she had a nice new car and a nice house in a nice neighborhood. She mentioned her ex-husband made a really nice income. Looked him up on FB. Dude is renting a basement out of some guy's house. Yeah, I bet I know what happened there. Not my business but I went ghost after that.

gf's highschool friend, we will call her 'sloot'
sloot relationships up some dude who makes 6 figures, she is a waitress. Dude owns a house, lets her live there for free. Dude then also pays for her to go to uni, 4 year tuition. Dude ALSO pays for an apartment near the college for her. Sloot pretty much parties for 4 years getting an econ degree while banging other guys in the apartment dude was paying for. He comes to visit every other weekend.
She graduates, he proposes, she breaks up with him

Reminds me of:
Ran into a guy at an oil field site that was making 250K/year but had to live in a motor home because the alimony and child support payments literally left him with almost nothing at the end of the day. I want to say he was having to pay out something like 10-15K/month to his EX and kids."There's a fine line between salvation and drinking poison in the jungle." -Gym Jones

An guy I know got with this woman with a kid. She had him use his loans and savings to buy "them" a house and they shortly married after and had a kid of their own. He hasn't been screwed (yet) but is looking at the door and can't realistically go anywhere. He has a good career now so if he leaves he will lose the house, assets, and have to pay spousal and child support.

How about my own divorce....
I had to give her $177k to buy out her half of the assets. $1500 a month spousal support. Paid $6k towards her lawyer bills, and she got $110k from my 401k.
I had primary custody of the kid so she actually owed me child support, but since it's based on difference in income.....I only received about $100 a month.
Jokes on her though....she ended up falling in love with some mexican immigrant. She married him a month after the divorce went final to keep him in the country. That meant I didn't have to pay spousal support anymore. Then he ends up bleeding a ton of money from her due to family emergencies.
I fixed up my house and just sold it with the market high so I ended up ok. Now every dollar I put in my 401k is MINE. No more sharing bull****.
Marriage.....
