My job does not allow me to be properly prepared. And we have received recent credible threats. I work in child welfare.

The Russian wrestling team and American wrestling team are having a 5-on-5 exhibition match. Both teams are down to their final wrestlers, tied at two wins apiece. The remaining American wrestler is 5'10", 175lbs., and his Russian counterpart is 6'7", 300lbs and all muscle. The American coach sends his wrestler into the match with little hope of winning. As expected, the Russian has with way with the American. Suddenly, the American explosively turns the match around, pins the Russian, and gains the victory for the American team.
The American wrestler returns to the sidelines where the coach asks him, "Son, how were you able to defeat that big Russian? Honestly, I didn't give you much of a chance."
The wrestler says, "Well, coach, when he had me down on the ground all rolled up, I saw a pair of nuts dangling in front of my face, and I just bit them as hard as I could."
The coach is shocked. "That's how you beat him?!"
"Hell yeah!" the wrestler says. "You'd be surprised what you can do when you bite your own nuts!"Air Force Veteran 1976 - 1999 - Cannabis Enthusiast since the 1960's

Again, dudes with open carry trying to prove themselves or intimidate others is what gets me worried. Even if you think you pulling our your weapon in public is a good thing, you dont have the fire discipline or control to prevent collateral damage. Now, if you have made more NSW deployments then me (caveat I dont have a Trident) we can talk about what teams we were on and how the shooters cleared houses and I'll feel better. But otherwise I get the feeling you have no clue what your bullets are going to do at close range even if you hit the guy you are aiming at. I, quite unfortunately, have.
I regret joining this thread, and I'm out.

I carry concealed everywhere. Keep a small individual first aid kit handy (mostly just a tourniquet, gauze, and QuikClot) for myself or my family. A few other small useful things. I see carrying a gun nowadays as no different than carrying a sword in the old days.
I like and respect the police, but you can't always rely on them. Los Angeles has the fastest police response time in the country at 5.7 minutes. That's a long time to be waiting for help when you need it.
Regular training is key.

I’d never open carry. Not because I’m afraid I will spray the mall with bullets if someone takes my Auntee Em pretzel. I wont open carry because of the high number of non-carrying idiots who might see my weapon as a challenge to them.
I carry everyday when I’m not at school. I go places like a regular guy, buy groceries, gas, etc. I converse with strangers. I get bumped into at the store. I get cut off in traffic, like most everyone else.
Yet, through it all, I’ve never reached for my weapon, or even felt like I needed it.
I also don’t drive around looking to get into a car accident because I “carry” car insurance. If you poke a bear in the eye, expect a bear like response.

No amount of training will stop a determined person."You know that little thing in your head that keeps you from saying things you shouldn't? Yeah, well, I don't have one of those."
